Last Prairie Farmers Market of the season! Come see us today from 3-6p in Parkers Prairie. I'll have walking onions, 1 dozen duck eggs!, chicken eggs, a little bit of produce, and plenty of great tallow products(balm, butter, scrubs, lip balm, and salves) to stock up on for the coming cold!

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final market of the season. 🍂 After a summer full of growth, weather, laughter, new faces, familiar favorites, and so much community support, we’re closing out our third season at the park with very full hearts.

Come celebrate with us one last time this Friday, October 2nd! Enjoy free samples from vendors, grab a delicious meal from le Food Truck of The Crowded Table, stock up on local food and handmade goods, and soak up what looks to be a beautiful sweater-weather fall afternoon. We have so much to be thankful for- and we’d love to end the season surrounded by the community that made it possible. 🤎

My youngest knows that I won't buy the processed premade junk at the store. It's quick and convenient, but also filled with so much crap and toxins that is just not worth it. Instead, she requested pizza flavored hand pies. They're basically fry bread and whatever filings you want. I made cheese pizza and caprese for her along with chicken Korma for us (great way to use up leftovers!) These are good the next day hot or cold. I'll put a bunch in the freezer that she can thaw the night before and reheat at school too. Good food can be convenient too.

Hand Pies
Makes 12
Dough: 4c flour, 1.5t yeast, 1.5t salt, 1/3c avocado oil (or tallow or lard), 1.25c warm water. Knead 5 mins, cover and let rise for 1 hour. Then divide into 12 balls.
Roll dough out, add filling leaving room for crimping. Crimp edges with fork.
Fry in about 1" tallow or lard until golden on each side.

We stuff these with anything you can think of. Ground beef, rice, potatoes, onions, peas, leftovers, pizza, caprese, breakfast, you name it!

Busy day in the tallow kitchen. Restocking Subtly Citrus and Vanilla Body Butter and working on rendering down another 30lbs of suet into more tallow.
Should be all stocked up again for Pickletoberfest in New York Mills this Saturday, Oct 3rd. Stop by and say Hi!

The field horse shelter is almost done!!! It sits out in the middle of the track where the horses spend most of their time. Started as a 21'x27' car port, now has NW and SE side walls with 2 9' openings on the S and E sides. I will finally be able to rest easy during the big storms knowing they've got this. (They're far more likely to actually go in here vs the run-in at the back of the barn. They only utilized that on the hottest days).
