Fine Friday and It does not have to be expensive to be a fine wine. 2017 Valderiz by
Very deep purple for this Ribera del Duero packed with plum and blueberry aromas kn the nose with hints of vanilla and cacao. On the palate it is a super smooth wine, very easy to drink thanks to its balanced acidity and tannins.
If you want a Ribera del Duero without breaking the bank but able to compete with the big guns, look no more, this is your wine!! Oh and it has been ranked as the 12th on the top 100 of 2020! Nuff said!
Fun fact: Made from 70 year old vines, there is a rumor that Pingus try every year to buy grapes from this winery!

2020 Stamnaki Assyrtiko by
We had a couple bottles of this 100% assyrtiko. More fruity than the others we had tried, very light (we had a couple bottles and they went down like water 🥴) but a lot of green and white fruit with some salinity. Another great wine to out on the list of “drink by the sea”

It’s Fine Friday with one of the best Rioja’s vintages ever. 2010 La Rioja Alta 904 by Just by pouring it you can see the rollercoaster of flavors and aromas expecting you.
On the nose the first thing that will amaze you is the notes of fresh fruit (yes, still fresh despite its age, showing you that you can keep this for many many years to come) that lead the way to spices, flowers and tar!
On the palate its very soft tannins will let you taste the blueberries and blackberries it is packed with, and hints of raspberry and strawberry with the almost perfect acidity and an amazingly long finish that will keep you going for another round. Forget the coravin, you will finish it in one sitting 🥴

It is Cava time with this 2015 Barrica (barrel in catalan) Gran Reserva from
Made only from Macabeu (one of the three varieties in the caba blend) this is probably one of the best cavas you can find in its price range.
Citrusy and apple are predominant in the nose, with hints of vanilla thanks to its oak aging.
On the palate this crisp and velvety cava shows more of the green apple and buttery toast with a rather long and refreshing finish.

$20 (you’ll have to take a trip to Spain, haven’t found it in US as per wine-searcher)
Value: 9.5/10 again, at this price point, this is among the best cavas you can find, and can compete (and win by far) with a lot of the champagnes even in a higher price point!

2019 Petit Albet by White and stone fruit at the jose for this organic wine that will also give you hints of flowers and citrus. On the palate very fresh and straightforward, with the citrus being the most noticeable profile. Refreshing and crisp, Great for a warm summer day.
Fun fact: it is made by a blend almost similar to the ones used by Cava (but this one has Chardonnay in it)

Value: 9.75/10 another proof that Is almost impossible to beat Spanish wines on price/quality ratio!!!

Let’s start the week with this refreshing 2019 El Brazo Albariño by Fragan and plenty of citrusy notes on the nose with hints of white flowers and some white fruit too. On the palate this pale yellow goodie reminds you of the places where it is from showing its salinity (think about being close by the sea) that goes great with the apple and pear flavors you’ll find on it.

Empezamos bien la semana con este refrescante albariño lleno de cítricos y frutas blancas en nariz, que luego te hacen encontrar notas de manzana y pera en boca que complementan muy bien el puntito salino que te hace pensar que estas junto al mar!

The first 2020 that we tried and what a great suprise! This Louis de Tourny Dauvignon Blanc by Domaine de Guillon.
Very pale but full of green fruit and herbal notes, that makes it a great example of Bourdeaux Blanc if you are studying wines.
On the palate the lemon and lime are the most present notes, with great acidity and some minerality and “saltiness”. Perfect for a sunny day with some grilled veggies and seafood.

Let’s start the week with this 2019 Domaine La Millière Côtes du Rhône by
Packed with red fruit in the nose and palate, being raspberry the most noticeable one.
This really fresh coupage of Syrah and Grenache is really easy to drink and a perfect one for warm summer days if you are not into white.
Soft(ish) tannins and great acidity that makes it great to drink right now (so you do not have to overpack the cellar like yours truly 🤦🏽)

2018 Gramona Mustillant Blanc. This pale yellow sparkling wine is packed with flowers and fruit on the nose with green apples and peaches as the predominant ones.
On the palate, the fine bubbles (called “agulla” or needle in catalan) and its acidity make it really refreshing.
Fun Fact: this wine shares the same varieties as Cava, and even though it is also sparkling is not a Cava.

It is Fine Friday again with this 2018 Blanc de Pissarres by a limited production wine made of Garnatxa Blanca, Macabeu and Pedro Ximenez! This was the first time I tried such a diverse coupage and I loved it!
Very floral and herbal on the nose with hints of citrusy fruits. On the palate it is a very creamy and velvety wine that showcase the citrus found in the nose and adds some smoky and mineral notes. With its great finish and acidity, you’ll empty it in no time.

Esta era la primera vez que probaba un coupage tan diferente como este de Garnatxa Blanca, Macabeu y Pedro Xiemenez, y la verdad es que nos encantó. Un vino muy aromatico donde las flores y las hierbas predominan y acompañan a notas de cítricos.
Sedoso y cremoso en boca donde vuelven ha aparecer las notas cítricas, esta vez acompañadas por toques ahumados y minerales.
Nos acompañó perfectamente en esta jornada de paella i fideuà. Si hay que buscarle un “pero”: se termina demasiado rápido 🥴
