The outer epidermis (layer) of a cannabis cutting is being removed with a razor blade to expose the inner cambium and create more surface area. This stimulates phytohormones (natural plant chemicals) that will improve root growth and vigor once the cutting is dipped in rooting hormone and stuck in moist rooting media. It is important not to scrape too much of the stem away, you only want to expose the white cambium below the green epidermis layer.

Step by step demonstration of making clones (cuttings) from the branch of a mother plant, cutting the stem at 45-degree angle to increase surface area, scraping the outer epidermis away to expose the white cambium, dipping the bottom 1.5" of the cutting in rooting hormone, and inserting it into a soil-less media cube.

Jonah Helmer visited H**p Division CEO, Mike Harney, and Plant Manager, Rose Ellen to provide some consulting advice to improve their operations. Fresh Alternative Farms uses cutting-edge Cannabis research published in peer-reviewed journals to create comprehensive SOPs for cloning Cannabis from desirable “mother plants” and transplanting them into production systems.

The H**p Division currently produces high quality teas and juices infused with CBD. They are working with Fresh Alternative Farms to assist with the transition to adult-use Cannabis. FreshAF put together a revenue model to show the potential profits that can be made producing quality Cannabis in New York State this season. Stay tuned to see the construction of the commercial greenhouse that is going up!

Jonah Helmer met with Justin, co-founder of Unhinged H**p Farms in upstate New York. Unhinged H**p Farms uses locally sourced compost to grow premium craft Cannabis for New Yorkers. They are growing a variety of genetics including Zombie and Purple Zombie among others.

Fresh Alternative Farms helped Unhinged H**p Farms prepare their business and cultivation plan, site map, and regulatory documents to ensure their approval for an adult-use conditional cultivators license. We continue to provide ongoing compliance services including preparation of a risk assessment and canopy map for Unhinged H**p Farms.

Hindsight Farm grows adult use cannabis using 100% organic and sustainable farming practices. They use locally sourced compost and make organic teas to boost the immunity of their plants and protect them from insects and disease.

Fresh Alternative Farms worked with Casey Oxley and his team to help them apply for and receive an Adult Use Conditional Cultivators License for Hindsight Farm in Upstate New York. Casey is a master grower who says “You should not grow cannabis like you grow corn. Instead, you should grow your plants like Christmas trees without tilling and disrupting the rich soil below.”
