A Love Letter

Foodie Fondo is losing one of our favorite foodie partners this week. Chaiwali is closing its doors on Sunday Dec 12th.

This is a love letter to a friend and colleague - Anita Trehan of Chaiwali in Harlem - at a moment of great change. We are celebrating all that Anita and the Chaiwali team accomplished as they prepare for this emotional week. We will miss having Anita’s amazing creation in our community and as a home for our Foodie Fondos. Our gratitude and admiration for you and your work will live on!

One of our favorite pieces of public art in Harlem is on the wall facing Morningside Park at PS 180 - Young Gifted and Harlem. Chaiwali has always fulfilled the directive to “shine bright, live with style, and contribute to a culture of care.” Anita always defined her own success, and her creation and team brought much joy to our community.

We have learned over this global pandemic that life is not about money, but about how we spend our time. Anita made something beautiful, and while it did not last forever, the memories will. Inner beauty is timeless, external beauty is ephemeral.

Thank you Anita and team Chaiwali!

It’s a Mighty Oak Thanksgiving
Thu Nov 25th

Dear Foodie Fondo Friends

Happy Thanksgiving! I am so very thankful for your support and friendship.

Food holidays are my jam. Food security is truly worth celebrating. May you gather with your family and friends around a table filled with the glory of great food. I hope you and your loved ones experience the blessing and bliss of a full stomach (with leftovers) today.

If you are a Foodie Fondo rider or marshal on your recent The Queens of Queens ride, please see your email in box for a generous offer from our friends . Mab and Sean at Mighty Oak Roasters, want me to extend their thanks to the Foodie Fondo peleton with a generous discount on your first online order. The top-secret code has been emailed to you.

I hope you enjoy Mighty Oak’s special coffees over the holidays. Please share a gift of Mighty Oak’s wood-fired roast coffee beans with your community - they’ll appreciate you even more than they do already.

If you did not ride The Queens of Queens, please look out for our 2022 ride calendar coming soon. Ride. Drink. Eat. Repeat. Join us.

I look forward to seeing you all over the winter and for more great Foodie Fondos in the spring.

Happy holidays + ride on!

Cheers,

Henry

Thank you to and (on Twitter) for bringing the electric micro-mobility revolution to the Grey Lady and its millions of readers.

We are living in revolutionary times when it comes to transportation, and I don’t mean the electric car. It’s time for cities to wake up to the potential for public spaces built around this new modality. We completely redesigned our cities to accommodate the car. 100 years later it’s time to change the urban transportation paradigm.

“Electrifying the transportation fleet is unambiguously good. Reducing the deaths, injuries and damages associated with car crashes is good.”

“If we can’t even envision cities that provide free, fun forms of personal transportation, we may just lack the imagination to address climate change.”

“…[T]his program could eventually pay for itself. There are all sorts of long-term ways cities could make money by getting cars off the road. They’d save on overall health care costs from a more fit public and see a decrease in emergency services for vehicle accidents. Repurposed parking lots could allow for more housing to be built and, therefore, an increase in tax revenue. For the sake of brevity, I want to focus on just one of these possibilities: road repair.”

[noun] readiness to show appreciation; to return kindness

The Queens of Queens - this past weekend’s Foodie Fondo - was magical. We were blessed by great fall weather, safe passage on the streets of NYC, and wonderful foodie friends at all our stops. Most of all, we were graced with a gorgeous and diverse peloton of experienced city cyclists led by our fearless marshals.

Thank you all for coming out to ride and break bread. Foodie Fondo celebrates urban cycling as a group adventure. Americans often think of riding a bike as a solitary sport, but, at Foodie Fondo, we revel in the joy of community. And being well fed.

To all our wonderful supporters, Foodie Fondo is thankful and grateful for your energy, enthusiasm, and support. Your adventurous spirit challenges and thrill us. We are filled with fond memories to sustain us during the winter ahead. We appreciate you and look forward to our future rides together.

As Baba Ram Dass says, “We are all just walking each other home.”

Ride. Drink. Eat. Repeat.

Ride on!

Good Times!

Some days are just better than others. Today was one of those special days - gorgeous city, foodies waiting for us, everyone on bikes, dope route planned out, friends and soon-to-be-friends, food, drink, pro service, engaging conversation, and more friends.

And enough memories to keep us warm all winter.

Thanks to so many people - I’ll make sure to thank you in detail in the morning.

Thank you for allowing me the great privilege of marshaling the elite wheelchair athletes as a support cyclist.

There is something really affirming for this city cyclist when your home town bestows the title “authorized cyclist” on you. Now I’m too legit to quit.

I ❤️ NY every day. Even more so today.
