Fatty Sundays Inspired by Mom’s recipe, sisters Ali and Lauren set out to modernize the chocolate covered pretze

Inspired by Mom’s famous rainbow sprinkle chocolate covered pretzels, sisters Ali and Lauren, along with their Dad (Jeff), Mom (Karen) and sister (Risa), set out, in 2012, to reinvent and modernize the classic chocolate covered pretzel. Everyone’s favorite sweet+salty snack was about to get a makeover! Many, many months of perfecting our pretzel dipping techniques, recipe tasting and testing, and

lots of laughter ensued. There were ups (and downs!) and so many memorable moments as Fatty Sundays was expanding and spreading their love of chocolate covered pretzels across the country and beyond. Now based in Brooklyn, NY, Fatty Sundays has an extensive gourmet pretzel flavor list. There’s a chocolate covered pretzel for every palate and each pretzel is thoughtfully flavored, generously dipped and perfectly decorated. As the company expands, their mission stays constant: to continue to share their gourmet, fun-flavored chocolate covered pretzels with the world and make people happy, one pretzel at a time!

don’t come @ me for Canada I feel like we’ve tried but it’s so complicated 😫

The chocolate to pretzel ratio is something we take vvvvvv seriously around here 🤤🤤

Got an email from someone…. She works at Nordic Knots, a brand I am genuinely obsessed with, have looked at their site approximately 129847379 times since moving to LA!! (Have yet to pull the trigger on anything BUT I plan to 😅)

She wanted to send some clients pretzels with a little personalized note. Nothing complicated, just thoughtful. I immediately wrote back, told her I loooove Nordic Knots (obvs), and we figured it out in a few emails. That’s it, that’s the whole story!

BUT I keep thinking about it not because I still have their site opened in a tab, but because this kind lady didn’t fill out a fancy form or formally request a quote. She emailed us because she wanted to do something nice for people she cares about and trusted us with that.

And THAT my friends is what gifting is actually supposed to be. We’ve been doing this long enough to see it go the other way too which is why I think so much about this stuff 🙃. The back and forth, the approvals, the “can you do X quantity at Y price by Z date” emails that somehow make a cutie box of chocolate pretzels feel like an overly complex corporate project. I get that it’s real money and real stakes in most cases. But in my honest opinion sometimes the point gets lost still.

We’re in the gifting business and always trying our best to spread pure joy and make people feel seen. She got that. It was 3 emails, and simple ex*****on.

Going into the holiday season THAT IS the spirit I want more of, and I’m putting it out there now ✨🎁🫶🏻

A dear friend I grew up with was at a wedding in Maryland a few months back and sent me this photo out of nowhere.

A shelfie I think it’s called?? 😆 In a store I’ve never heard of and in a state neither of us lives in. And there they were… Fatty Sundays sitting there all cute and colorful like they owned the place.

TBH I don’t know why this one got me?? Like I know we’re in stores. I know we ship all over the US. But something about someone I go way back with, who knew me way before any of this existed… spotting FS in the wild at a random moment and immediately sharing that with me. That’s the part that got me… It’s not about FS on the shelf, ya get me??🥹

Have you ever spotted FS somewhere unexpected? I genuinely want to know where we’re showing up so pleaaaaseee always send me a text or DM.

POV your kids want to make chocolate covered pretzels with friends but somehow there are NO plain FS rods in the house!!! 😵‍💫🥨

🎯 Against everything I stand for???? Maybe.

✅ Still chocolate and pretzels and sprinkles? Yes and that’s always allowed!

🚫And no I’d never allow a drizzle hehe

Can we talk abt pretzel size confusion for a sec?? For some reason everyone assumes chocolate covered pretzels mean 8” rods or twists and that’s it😵‍💫

We have always done the 4” rods. And not by accident!! They are the perfect bite- enough pretzel, enough chocolate and enough crunch at once. NO awkward snapping, NO chocolate falling avalanche 😳 and NO pretzel dust everywhere.

So whenever someone goes “these are smaller than expected” I never know if I should laugh or explain the whole philosophy (I usually do both lol)

The 4” pretzel was a very deliberate choice and after soooo many years I can confidently say it was the right one. Nothing makes me happier than eating a few at a time and not dealing w the long rods!! No shame just honest truth 🤣

Heyyyy just saying hi (from not my desk) and sharing something I prob think about more than I should?! 😂

People have emailed asking to be connected to our customer service team or our wholesale department. Or “whoever handles corporate gifting.” And I just sit there at my laptop being all those people!

Fatty Sundays has always been a small but mighty operation… far fewer people than you’d think, and, we’ve gone in waves bc this thing has been a journey🙃. BUT we’ve always worked with more heart than anything and somehow we’ve built something that feels big enough that people assume there’s a larger infrastructure behind it. People have tried to tell me they’d already spoken to someone on our team about a return, except we don’t have a whole customer service dept! I never know if I should laugh or cry when that happens but I have *mostly* laughed.

But here’s the thing I’ve realized… I kind of love that this happens?? To me it means what we’ve built looks and feels like something bigger than it is and that’s NOT by accident. That’s 12+ years of caring soooo so much about every single order, every customer and pretzel rod. Have you ever cried over chocolate pretzels?! Asking for a friend…

So if you’ve emailed us in the past few years and gotten a response that felt very, very human that’s because it was. It was likely me standing working in my kitchen (and likely drinking hot water lol IYKYK) while emailing you… Who did you think was on the other side??? 😄

‼️It’s July… Passover is in March. And we are already in matzo planning mode! I know, sounds kinda crazy. But this is actually what running a seasonal product looks like and most ppl would prob never know🤷🏻‍♀️

Our chocolate matzo has a window. A very specific short window. Passover comes once a year, lasts 8 days, and if we are not ready in advance we’ve already missed it. The production, the packaging, the logistics, all has to be worked out before the holiday gets too close.

Last year we sold double what we did the year before. Sooo yeah, it’s time. To be honest we didn’t start *this* early last year but I’m learning as we grow 😆

It’s a little wild to be thinking about spring in the thick of summer 💯 But that’s the reality of what we do. Every year we get a little better at it, a little more prepared and a little less terrified (emphasis on a little LOL).

If you’ve never tried our chocolate matzo — it’s genuinely one of my faaaaaavorite things we make. Thick chocolate, the perfect crunch with lots of topping, and something about the combo that just works in a way that’s hard to explain until you’ve had it. 🤤

I’ll make sure to keep you all posted with more matzo news as we get closer, don’t worry!! For now, back to planning I go ✌🏻🍫

Something weird started showing up in our orders back in Feb. Every order was typed in ALL CAPS. The addresses, the names, the gift notes were like shouting at me 😂

At first it seemed like one person having an intense day?? Then it kept happening day in and out… dozens of orders, all coming thru a third party we work with. ALL in ALL CAPS. So I did what any normal business owner would do, I started snooping… 🧐🤷🏻‍♀️

The gift notes kept signing off with the same name. A large corporation. I looked it up and yeah. Not a small operation.😳

The thing is that summer is generally a slower time for us bc shipping gets expensive and the heat makes chocolate a whole situation. It’s always been a time to plan for the holidays.

AND THEN February happened, and March and April. And somehow it’s July and they’re still ordering. Every. Single. Day 🙏🏻

I keep waiting for it to stop (me talking abt it better not jinx lol). But the part that gets me THE MOST is I can’t actually reach out to thank whoever is behind this. There’s a person somewhere sending our pretzels as gifts across every US state, every single day, and I have no way to say thank you.

So I’m saying it here, to you guys and the universe. Thank you, it means so much to us 💛

And if you are new here (and made it this far, thanksss), we started in my parent’s kitchen. We were 2 sisters, lots melted chocolate and sprinkles and a cool idea. And then sometimes even 12+ years later, something happens like this that reminds you it was all worth it.
