Fatty Sundays Inspired by Mom’s recipe, sisters Ali and Lauren set out to modernize the chocolate covered pretze

Inspired by Mom’s famous rainbow sprinkle chocolate covered pretzels, sisters Ali and Lauren, along with their Dad (Jeff), Mom (Karen) and sister (Risa), set out, in 2012, to reinvent and modernize the classic chocolate covered pretzel. Everyone’s favorite sweet+salty snack was about to get a makeover! Many, many months of perfecting our pretzel dipping techniques, recipe tasting and testing, and

lots of laughter ensued. There were ups (and downs!) and so many memorable moments as Fatty Sundays was expanding and spreading their love of chocolate covered pretzels across the country and beyond. Now based in Brooklyn, NY, Fatty Sundays has an extensive gourmet pretzel flavor list. There’s a chocolate covered pretzel for every palate and each pretzel is thoughtfully flavored, generously dipped and perfectly decorated. As the company expands, their mission stays constant: to continue to share their gourmet, fun-flavored chocolate covered pretzels with the world and make people happy, one pretzel at a time!

✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻 …. until Passover 2027!!!

There’s a lotttt I want to say and share about Passover and the past few weeks, which I will do soon b/c I was like hey! I’m here! a few posts ago and then went MIA on you all 😃

🙏🏻 But all I’d like to say *right now* is THANK YOU for including our matzo in your Passover celebrations this year. It means more than you know when I see photos and get texts about FS at your family celebrations. So thank you for bringing us into your traditions.

🧡 To anyone who didn’t get that wanted, come back next year and we’ll have even more!!

🙈 And lastly to anyone’s order that had an error, I’m truly sooooo sorry and I really don’t like when mistakes are made. We tried to fix as many as possible and will always strive to do better next year, that I promise!

I know I know it’s a belated story time, but that pause hit different….
I’m standing in Ruthie’s 3rd class, w/ 25 kids w/ chocolate-covered hands, teaching them the process I perfected years ago when we made everything at home (and then in BK.) And she was chill but totally glowing, you could tell she was low key excited to have me there making pretzels with her class.

She sees Fatty Sundays as this huuuge company (it’s not, but I love that she thinks so). She doesn’t know about the production pivots, the competition and the uphill battles of the chocolate industry. She just knows her mom makes pretzels that make people happy.

While watching those little hands dip and sprinkle I got transported back to our kitchen… to the early days when we used to make everything by hand. To the DIY kits during the pandemic (WHO remembers!!???). To teaching old employees our ‘method.’ To my MOM making the chocolate-covered pretzels that literally sparked this *whole thing.*

Somewhere in the chaos of scaling and growing and trying to survive in this space (and building a family🙃) I’d forgotten the sheer simplicity of what we created.

FS is not some over-the-top luxury investment. We’re not trying to be the fanciest it-chocolate on the market. We have something simple that tastes good, looks good, and brings people joy. Makes them smile whether it’s snacking on a random Tuesday or giving gifts throughout the year.

That’s literally why we started this thing. And that’s what my mom did for us. And now? Ruthie gets to be part of that magic too.

Will she take over Fatty Sundays one day? Who the heckkk knows. The distant future is unknown (welcome to life and entrepreneurship LOL 😅). BUT what I DO know? She’ll always know how to make our chocolate covered pretzels. She’ll always have this tradition. This three-generation thing that started in Long Island, NY and somehow became this.

The holiday party was a little messy— and chaotic— just the way it needed to be. And in that pauss, fingers covered in chocolate, watching Ru help her friends I remembered why we do this: not for the scale, not for the competition… for the JOY.

…. Here’s to more of it!!🫶🏻
