Georgie Girl Confections

Georgie Girl Confections I've always wanted to start my own business. However, I could not figure out what that business should be. Instead, I make stuff I like and stuff you want.

Having attended business school for my graduate degree, worked in corporate America for over a decade, and read all the books on how to start a business, I had all the necessary tools. I had always heard you should do what you love, and after a bit of soul searching, I realized how much I love to bake. When I was a little girl, my parents were often busy doing their own thing and I often felt bore

d. I'd go through mom's Betty Crocker cookbook and look through our cabinets to see what ingredients we had so that I could create something. I also had the fortune of growing up 6 doors down from my grandmother who to this day at nearly 90 years old, still cooks and bakes from scratch. The hardest part was to make the decision to be a baker. Once I made this declaration, everything just fell into place. Many ask me, "So what is your business?" No, I don't specialize in just cupcakes, just macaroons, or just whoopie pies. What does this mean? I search all over for recipes, then I try them and make them my own. I also anticipate that you all will be reaching out to me with special requests. Given this my menu will always evolve to be sure to check back for the latest! For now, I plan to bake out of my home and grow the business through word of mouth. I will maintain my full-time job. As for the rest, we'll see what happens! Thank you to everyone for your support. Donated a gift certificate for a dessert party for Alpha Workshops' fundraiser and it was just redeemed. Reviews from the weekend, "Just wanted to say thank you again. The cookies were great -- everyone had a different favorite -- and the party was a big hit." The dessert party included peanut butter cookie sandwiches, kitchen sink and lemon cookies and truffle fudge balls.

Made apple crisp tonight. Decided to add frozen raspberries that we recently picked to mix it up. Our guest, who came over due to lack of electricity from Hurricane Sandy, said it was the best apple crisp he ever had! The tart raspberries ensured the sweetness was not overpowering. Yeah to my experiment!

Making tres leches cake for our Mexican-themed Dinner Club gathering tomorrow night. Gotta let the tres leches soak in the cake - the longer, the better!

My kitchen smells amazing! I have Hungarian Nut Rolls in the oven and apples cooking for apple sauce. I'm making an unsweetened apple sauce from our weekend of apple picking - apples, water, cinnamon, vanilla. Yummy and healthy!

Always love getting feedback from people. Delivered some yummy treats to a student at Barnard College and her mom said, " She received the cookies and she said they were/are amazing, next time ill need to order more they were hit with all her dorm room friends." Thanks for the feedback and so happy to have pleased the students!
