Downtown Cookie Co. was founded in August 2008 by Dan Guerrera and grew out of his quest to find homemade cookies like his mother baked – dense, delicious cookies with real ingredients such as butter, brown sugar and chocolate. After years of scouring New York and being unable to find what he was looking for, Dan started baking his own cookies in the tiny kitchen of his West Village apartment – an

d a company was born. From the beginning, Downtown Cookie Co. In 2009, New York magazine named Downtown Cookie Co.’s chocolate -chip walnut cookie the “best chocolate-chip cookie in New York.” The company started churning out thousands of cookies for people in New York City – and all over the country. When the company outgrew his apartment kitchen, Dan built a kitchen in Brooklyn where he filled his largest single order for 30,000 cookies. New Yorkers in the know still refer to Dan as “the cookie guy.”

Although Downtown Cookie Co. is no longer baking and selling cookies Dan still follows his passion daily. Join him here to share, comment, listen and learn about all things cookies.

Baking tip: Line your baking sheets with parchment paper. The bottoms of your cookies will bake evenly and they'll slide off the cookie sheet without sticking.. It may even help to keep your cookies on the thick side and you know we like that!

And, as a final good-bye, here is our Jane Street Jam recipe. Yep, it's actually it. You're welcome everyone!!!

1 stick of butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg (separated)
1 1/4 cup flour
Chopped almonds
Raspberry Jam

Cream butter and sugar. Mix in egg yolk and vanilla until well combined. Stir in flour. Roll dough into two ounce balls. Dip in egg whites and roll in almonds. Make a thumb print in the center of the ball and fill with jam. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes. If you make smaller cookies be sure to adjust bake time appropriately. Enjoy!
