The Scotch Whisky Club of New York

The Scotch Whisky Club of New York The Scotch Whisky Club of New York's purpose is to connect Scotch Whisky lovers in the New York City area.

The goal of this club is to encourage product knowledge, tastings, and get togethers. "Usquebaugh", as it was known in Gaelic, meaning "Water of Life", was shortened to "Usky" and later translated to "Whisky" in English. However pronounced, the meaning remains perfectly accurate. Single Malt Scotch embodies the authentic tastes and scents of Scotland itself, with each bottle giving you an accurate sample of the land, sea, and air, of the precise location of that distillery.

The 18th century was the heyday of this activity, and there are lots of great stories surrounding this game of cat and mouse

A lovely photo of the River Spey at Craigellachie in the heart of the Malt Whisky Trail. The Spey (which gives its name to the Speyside region), is the second longest river in Scotland at 107miles, and the fastest flowing. It is famed as a salmon river, and of course its many tributaries provide the clear, cold water perfect for whisky making.

We Highlanders are a superstitious people with plenty of myths, legends and ghost stories. The long winter nights with a whisky or two in front of the fire helped to shape those beliefs and stories. The scenery helps too. This is a shot of Schiehallion - which in Gaelic means the 'Fairy Hill of the Caledonians', and was considered something of a sacred mountain by our Iron Age ancestors.
