My grandma, Natalie Ain, lived a long life full of art, community service, and family (March 26, 1927-October 31, 2024). Her 97 years are a testament to how much she loved life to the fullest despite its challenges.
Her sense of humor was paramount and I think, the secret to enjoying life. As she aged and took a spill, she’d exclaim, “Is this the only way to get some good-looking young men to put their hands on me?!” as the paramedics helped her up. She needed a good sense of humor to be married for nearly 73 years to my grandfather, Theodore (“Teddy”) since he could be difficult.
She taught me how to paint and see beauty in the everyday. Her house was filled with Modern Art. Dali’s melting clocks and scenes from Picasso’s “Guernica” scared the pants off me as a kid, but we’re now honored to have her own paintings and prints from Miro and Dali she collected in our home.
Her great-grandson, Jasper, was the apple of her eye. She gave him a stuffed bear when he was a baby and he named it the very original “Teddy.” He is Jasper’s most dear possession and the only time Teddy is allowed to leave the house is to visit FL.
After her memorial service, there was a lovely rainbow 🌈 and I’m pretty sure she was smiling down. I’m glad she can be reunited with her Teddy wherever that may be.
