Iron Curtain NYC

Iron Curtain NYC Peel back the curtain. You know you wanna! We’re a new kind of Soviet restaurant in New York. Notice, we said Soviet, not Russian. What’s the difference, you ask?

That’s because instead of focusing on Russian food (vast as the country may be) we’d like to give you a taste of the Soviet Union. Well, the USSR was made up of 15 republics, stretching from Europe to Asia; each with a different people and very different food. And that’s exactly how we grew up eating it. We rarely remember eating just “Russian food”. From day to day there’d be a funky succession o

f dishes hailing from all over the place. You could be eating Ukrainian borscht one day, Uzbek plov the next, and Georgian brick chicken the day after that. And on most days that’s still how we eat today. So there you have it – a pan-Soviet restaurant. We’re going to feature one dish from somewhere in the former CCCP every few months. We’ll make it seasonal – because nothing warms your bones on a cold winter day like a bowl of fiery Kharcho, or helps fight the heat like some nice chilled Svekol’nik. We’ll make it unfussy – because no one actually ate in opulence, unless you were the General Secretary’s nephew and his mistress. And we’ll make it dang good!
