I value my clients highly, and travel the world to accommodate their schedules. My work has been featured in magazines, music videos, and the Tony Award-winning series, "The Sopranos." Before-and-after images are so exciting. For my client, who has invested a lot of time and money, has stayed really focused on protocol, and is now seeing a return on her investment. For me, as a trichologist, there is only so much I have in my “tool Kit” to offer. And what I suggested worked very well. Hair loss happens over years; hair growth can take years too. We wanted to STOP the shedding. Sometimes it’s worse on some days and better on others. My client keeps applying the topical solution I suggested, comes in to see me for a weekly scalp treatment, is working with a nutritionist, and is now in the great hands of ELENA MARIA BURUIANA, MD. Between us all, we have all helped get my client's hair back! It truly does take a village, and NYC feels like that to me.

What beautiful hair! As a trained trichologist, I sit with all of my clients for an hour in a private office. We go over their medical history, their health history, and how they feel right now about their hair loss. I learned my client is suffering from complex gastrointestinal conditions. I know the right nutritionist who specializes in complex conditions. Being a Trichologist is rewarding and challenging. I am just over a 1/4 of the way through my EBHF Fellowship and learning a tremendous amount of important evidence-based science to help my clients. I never thought I would become so interested in science. I have always been a hairstylist, but the more I learn, the more I understand that hair loss is more prevalent than ever before. It would have been easy for me to have stopped learning when I became double board certified, but I knew I needed to dig deeper. It has been a tremendous sacrifice: giving up two global brands that I was a spokesperson for, slashing my hairdressing schedule in half so I had time to study, attend weekly lectures, and complete the homework I have to submit each week. I make sure I do not fall behind, even if it means I'm not making the money I used to or having a sexy lifestyle. The new direction I'm heading is outstanding, and I'm eager to learn more so I can help more of my lovely Trichology clients who trust I have their best interests at heart.

August is Alopecia Awareness Month. I'm chatting about our hair follicles. My clients are often misinformed about what they are and how unhurried they are at reproducing lots and lots of Hair very quickly!

Thank you, .com and Static Media. As we age, hair undergoes significant changes, driven by genetics, hormones, and reduced cellular activity. 🔬 This transformation includes texture and thickness. Follicles produce thinner, finer hair rather than thick, pigmented terminal hair. 🌷This often reduces overall hair volume. The hair growth cycle slows, meaning Hair spends less time in the growing phase and more time in the resting phase, resulting in slower growth and increased fragility along the Hair shaft. 👀Find out how to keep your hair looking its very best as you age. 💐

Scarring Alopecia: What You Need to Know (And Why Early Diagnosis Matters More Than You Think)
When you Google the word “alopecia,” what comes up?
Most people see images of patchy hair loss or read about autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata. What’s often missing from those search results—and from everyday conversation—is a lesser-known but far more serious category of hair loss: scarring alopecia. And that lack of visibility is part of the problem.
What Is Scarring Alopecia
Scarring alopecia, also known as cicatricial alopecia, is not just hair loss. It is a group of inflammatory conditions that permanently destroy hair follicles. Once a follicle is damaged to that degree, it cannot regenerate. That means the hair loss is irreversible. This is what makes early detection and treatment so critical.
The Reality: Scarring Alopecia is Often Diagnosed Too Late
Here are the facts: scarring alopecia is frequently diagnosed late due to a lack of awareness among patients and, at times, even within general medical care. It rarely starts with obvious hair loss. Instead, it begins subtly.
You might notice:
“It’s just an itch.”
“There’s a little tingling.”
“That burning sensation is back again.”
“My scalp feels tight today.”
“Maybe I just need to change my shampoo.”
And so the cycle continues. Weeks turn into months. Months turn into years. Meanwhile, the inflammation continues beneath the surface, quietly damaging follicles.
