Saturday with and the team at .

We built a special post-jump rope drink for the event using a house-made dried apricot and strawberry syrup. Sweet but complex and a little earthy.

Really great group of people and a fun one to be part of. Always appreciate working with teams that put real energy into bringing people together.

A few images from this month’s Oval newsletter.

Part update, part journal. New cafés, grocery stores, and places to find our coffee, along with a few thoughts from nearly two decades spent around coffee and the culture surrounding it.

This month includes a piece on encountering coffee inside museums and art collections, not in the café, but in the work itself. Coffee appears constantly in paintings, objects, sculpture, and design. Once you start noticing it, it becomes difficult to stop.

One work that especially stayed with me was Jannis Kounellis’ Untitled (Scales and Coffee) at Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring.

We spend a great deal of time thinking about coffee as flavor, but also as atmosphere, ritual, memory, work, aesthetics, travel, and daily life. The cup itself is only part of it.

A full day usually goes into writing and assembling these newsletters. We consider them central to what we do.

Coffee has come a long way.

From K-Cups to Nespresso pods, convenience changed how we all drink coffee. At home, in hotels, at the office, it became easier than ever to get a consistent cup.

And for many of us, that became part of our daily routine.

Now we are seeing something new.

Or maybe something familiar, coming back in a better way.

Pour over single serves are growing because they offer that same convenience, but in a simpler form. No machine needed. Just hot water and a mug.

New York City and Philadelphia may feel close, but the way people shop tells a different story.

A couple weeks back, we hosted a tasting at Sprouts Farmers Market in Philadelphia. Full carts. Weekly trips. A more planned approach to stocking up.

Back in New York City, it works differently.

You stop in on the way home. You pick up what you need for the day. You notice what is on the shelf because you see it again and again. Coffee becomes part of that daily rhythm.

That is where we feel most at home.

There is something special about seeing coffee come to life in real time.

Earlier this month, Christopher Alspach was in store at Sprouts Farmers Market in Philadelphia and Dumbo Market in Brooklyn, brewing coffee and speaking directly with customers. Those conversations shape how we roast, how we show up on shelf, and how we continue to improve every day.

These are not easy shelves to earn or to keep. We do not take that for granted, and we are grateful to the teams and communities that make space for us.
