Oklahoma’s Mother Nature might be having a serious hot flash, and she’s not letting up yet!

With above normal temperatures and drought hanging on across the state, keep these cool-season planting tips in mind:
🌱 Have your seed on hand and ready to go the moment you catch a rain in the forecast.
☔ If the rain doesn’t come in time for your cool-season mix to emerge, don’t panic.
🌾 In warm-season heavy grazing systems, cool-season seed can stay viable through the summer and may respond next fall when conditions improve—think of it as an investment in next season, not a total loss.

Drought and heat can hit both your forage production and your bottom line, so do what’s best for **your** operation.

Have questions about cool-season options on your place? Drop a comment or message us to visit with one of our soil health specialists. We can talk through different options for your farm.

Do you know your local farmers? Why support local farmers? Just like other small businesses that contribute back to the local schools and fundraisers for your kids and grand kids, so do your local farmers. Overturf Farms has continually donated back to the local premium sales, for at least the last 40 years, which supports students working with livestock and becoming the next generation that feeds and supports the American food chain. Gene Overturf has also served on the local conservation district for the last 10 years. Before that he was the local FSA director, land judging coach, and dad who supported his kids and other kids’ livestock showing. Susie Overturf taught marketing and business development to students, local businesses and her own children. This is just small examples of how our family farm has contributed back locally. Many farmers in our community and across America do the same. I encourage you as a food consumer and hopefully clothed individual to find your local farmers, encourage them and embrace their business as they continue to support your community and America.
