Two bottles. Same category. Two very different approaches to enjoying Port. 🍷

Ever noticed the words filtered or unfiltered on a bottle of Late Bottled Vintage Port?

They’re more than technical details. They can change how you serve and experience the w**e.

🍷 FILTERED LBV

Filtration removes sediment before bottling. The result is a style designed for convenient enjoyment, typically straight from the bottle without decanting.

🍷 UNFILTERED LBV

This style retains more natural material and may develop sediment in the bottle. Standing it upright and decanting can help you serve it beautifully. Some examples can also develop further with bottle age.

But here’s the part worth remembering:

Filtered doesn’t mean inferior. Unfiltered doesn’t automatically mean better.

They’re different approaches to LBV Port—not a competition.

One might suit a spontaneous evening. The other might appeal when you want to slow down and enjoy the ritual of opening and serving a bottle.

Two Portuguese names. One prestigious IWSC shortlist. 🇵🇹

The IWSC 2026 W**e Producer Trophy shortlists have been revealed—and Portugal is represented in the Sweet/Fortified W**e Producer category by two remarkable names:

🍷 Kopke
🍷 Symington Family Estates

The IWSC Producer Trophies recognize producers based on the quality and consistency of their wider portfolios, rather than the performance of a single w**e. Making the shortlist means a producer has demonstrated strong results across multiple entries.

For Port lovers, these are two names with extraordinary histories.

Kopke, founded in 1638, is recognized as the oldest Port w**e house in the world and is particularly renowned for aged Tawny, White Port, and Colheita Ports.

Symington Family Estates represents generations of Portuguese w**e and Port heritage, with renowned houses including Graham’s, Dow’s, Warre’s, and Cockburn’s.

The 2026 IWSC Producer Trophy winners will be announced at the IWSC Awards Ceremony in London on November 24.

What happens when one of Portugal’s classic grapes meets the Atlantic influence of Lisboa?

Meet Quinta de Chocapalha Castelão 2022 🇵🇹 — a beautifully precise expression of 100% Castelão, crafted under the direction of renowned w**emaker Sandra Tavares da Silva.

Castelão is one of Portugal’s traditional red grapes, and here it shows a particularly elegant side.

🍓 On the nose: expressive red berries with subtle floral notes
🍷 On the palate: silky, sweet tannins with juicy raspberry and ripe spice
🌊 The finish: long, fresh, and lifted — with the Atlantic influence of Lisboa adding energy to the w**e

The w**emaking is just as thoughtful.

After a 12-hour cold pre-fermentation maceration, the w**e ferments in stainless steel before spending 14 months aging, with 50% of the w**e resting in used French oak.

The result?

Fruit first. Oak in the background. Freshness throughout.

And this is exactly the kind of Portuguese red that deserves a place at the dinner table.

WHY DOES THIS W**E TASTE LIKE THE SEA? 🌊🍷

There's something strange about this Madeira.

It tastes like fruit.

It tastes like dried fruit.

It tastes like spice.

And somehow… it makes you think of the sea.

Meet Blandy's Verdelho 10 Years Old Medium Dry Madeira.

Made from 100% Verdelho, this Madeira brings together candied and dried fruit, figs, dates and exotic spice with something much less expected: salinity.

The palate is medium dry, with freshness, acidity and a distinctive saline character that leads into a long finish with smoked dried fruit, figs and iodized notes.

What do you really know about Touriga Nacional?

Maybe you've seen the name on a Portuguese w**e label.

Maybe you've heard that it's one of Portugal's most important red grape varieties.

But there's much more to discover.

Meet Dow’s Vale do Bomfim Red DOC Douro 2023—a dry red w**e from Portugal’s Douro Valley, crafted by the Symington family using vineyards connected to the House of Dow’s.

Maybe old vines growing where the landscape is anything but gentle.

In Beira Interior, one of Portugal's most mountainous w**e regions, the vineyards live under a distinctly continental climate—with hot summers, cold winters and dramatic temperature variation.

The landscape is rugged.
The soils are largely granite.
