Michigan is considering legalizing the sale of raw milk from dairy farms. It sounds really great and allows for families, who would normally not be able to access raw milk, to get raw milk. 🥛🐮
But..
It’s dumb. I drink raw milk but am fully aware of the dangers that come with it. Pasteurization is a thing for a reason! Modern science has taught us how dangerous drinking raw milk can be. I ensured to properly educate myself on the risks vs benefits (via peer reviewed, scientific, published papers and studies… not someone off of Facebook who has no credentials or the facilities to perform tests/studies🙄) and decided I felt comfortable drinking raw milk if I’m the one handling it. I know how it’s handled, stored, filtered, etc. Often times, even, I pasteurize our milk before drinking. The rest of the milk I use for cooking, cheese, baking, etc and it’s heated to the necessary temperature for long enough to kill any dangerous bacteria.
Seeing raw milk on the shelves for consumption is going to cause a false sense of security for those who may not know the risks of consuming raw milk. The benefits of raw milk can be received via other, safer, natural ways.
Ask any large scale dairy farmer if they’d drink raw milk and they’d likely say no.
I’m not saying to not drink raw milk, I’m saying know the risks and the benefits of drinking raw milk. And remember: the benefits from raw milk can be found in other natural ways too. And for the love of all things holy, please do NOT give your young children raw milk. 😩
Sincerely,
A raw milk drinker. 💌
P.s. look in comments for articles on the matter if you’re so inclined to educate yourself.
