October in Oregon keeps you honest.

Last week the crew was harvesting in the cold. Today will be 82 degrees and the vines look like summer never left. Harvest doesn’t offer the comfort of a predictable forecast, and neither does the land that produces it.

What Privé has always been able to count on is this estate. Forty years of careful tending have built something that weathers whatever the season brings. Not because the land is easy, but because the relationship between a vineyard and the people who steward it is built over decades, not seasons. We take care of it. It provides for us. Every year, without fail, the old vines offer up their fruit and we have the opportunity to share what comes of it with the people who matter most to this place.

That is the part no forecast can touch.

The harvest season is coming to a close, and as fast and furious as the past month has felt, there is always room to reflect and appreciate the people who helped bring another vintage of Privé w**e to life. To everyone who was a part of the 2026 harvest, THANK YOU for believing in us and being a part of our w**emaking dream. We are so grateful for our team and each and every one of you who support us through tastings at the estate and through our wonderful w**e club. We couldn’t do this without you

Every cluster that goes into a Privé w**e passes through here first.

The destemmer separates fruit from stems before it reaches the tank, and the sorting table is where the team makes the calls that define the vintage — cluster by cluster, removing anything that doesn’t belong. It is methodical, unglamorous, and entirely non-negotiable. What you put into the fermentation vessel is what you get out of it. The 2026 vintage is being built one careful decision at a time.

What you’re looking at is pomace — the skins, pulp, and seeds that remain after the grapes have been fermented and pressed. The word itself traces back to Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards. Even the language of w**emaking carries history.

In the making of red w**e, pomace isn’t incidental. The skins spend anywhere from five to thirty days in contact with the fermenting juice, depending on the style of w**e. This is where color is built, where tannins develop, where the w**e begins to take on the structure that will carry it for years.

What remains after pressing represents roughly a fifth of the total harvest weight. At Privé, it is composted and returned to the vineyard as fertilizer. Nothing about this process is wasted. The fruit gives everything it has, and the land receives it back.

The cellar looks more dramatic than usual right now, and there is a reason for that.

Beneath that plastic sheet, freshly picked Pinot Noir is resting. Dry ice floods the tank with CO2, displacing oxygen and protecting the fruit from oxidation while the juice spends its first hours in contact with the skins. No fermentation yet. Just time, and cold, and the unhurried, intentional work of color and structure finding their way into the w**e. This is where the 2026 vintage begins the slow journey that eventually leads to what you’re holding in your glass.

There are fleeting moments during harvest when you’re able to slow down just enough to remember why you decided this in the first place. This morning, we were lucky enough to find one of those moments.

Harvest at Privé is many things. Early mornings, stained hands, and the weight of a full bucket passed between people who have done this together many times before.

There are no words for the feeling of holding the fruit in your hands the moment it leaves the vine — small clusters, dense and dark, brimming with tannins and acidity, carrying the full character of this soil and over forty years of careful tending and respect for the land. It is the season finally becoming real.

The 2026 vintage has begun, and we are grateful for every hand that made it possible.
