Next month will bring the first harvest of our estate vineyard, yet the inaugural vintage feels like a homecoming.

We moved here forty years ago when my parents built our home and my dad planted a few rows of grapes as a hobby. The land, at 1,000 feet elevation, was too high to sustain a vineyard for anything more than a bit of fun because the grapes only ripened fully every three years or so in the cool climate of the in those early years.

I moved away after high school and built my life in New York, San Francisco, and Portland, never thinking about returning to my childhood home. After my dad died in an accident, however, my daughter, Gabriella, who was 18 months old at the time, and I moved back to the family property so my mom wouldn't be alone.

A few years in, I noticed that those few rows were getting ripe every year. This is not surprising as climate change has meant that we are picking earlier and are now looking at higher elevation sites. What was impossible before started looking ideal to poise us for the future. I planted what had been a hay field with our estate vineyard of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier.

Now, it's finally coming to bear. It happens to be our twenty-fourth harvest and tenth without my dad, so this feels like moving forward. We're honoring our legacy as we focus on the future. We're able to do this due to your ongoing support and the way you've shared our story. It's not our history- it's ourstory.

"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."
-T.S. Eliot

One of my favorite things about releasing a new wine is discovering what pairs well with it over the first few months, which we've been doing with our Brut Nature. One of my favorite things to eat in the world is oysters. It turns out that Brut Nature and oysters are a perfect pairing.

I am excited to welcome Jamie Lyon, our Guest Experience Manager, to Team Et Fille! 👏 Jamie has already been part of Et Fille as a Wine Club member, so she knows firsthand what it's like to experience Et Fille from your perspective.

Jamie is leading our tasting room, wine club, and guest activities. She comes to us from , a winery I have respected immensely since we started Et Fille 23 years ago. Prior to following her passion for wine, Jamie was a supervisor in family services, where she developed a remarkable ability to listen deeply, solve problems thoughtfully, and care for people with genuine compassion. Those qualities, along with her warmth and curiosity, make her a wonderful fit for our team.

I can't wait for you to meet her, so please join me in welcoming Jamie to our incredible community!

I have such fond memories of Vintner's Weekends , a all-inclusive resort in that was recently awarded two keys. I'm excited to return Thanksgiving Weekend, where we'll have spectacular wine dinners and tastings, horseback rides, archery, and hikes with friends old and new. Did I mention that we'll eat amazing meals and not have to cook or clean up Thanksgiving Dinner?

One of the most rewarding aspects of our 23 year history has been partnerships with our vineyard owners. I'm so grateful for the relationships that allow us to make the kind of wine we want to make, the shared vision for creating the best grapes possible, and the mutual trust that forms the backbone of lasting friendship.

A few of our vineyard partners have retired and sold their land, but our friendships endure. In particular, I honor the founders of Kalita, Palmer Creek, and Deux Vert Vineyards for the legacy created and friendships that outlive the partnership.

Our dads teach us how to do things, what to do in various situations, and who to be- either because we find a model we want to emulate or the opposite for some. But there are lessons either way that stay with us long after they have left this life. Sending honor on to the dads who are with us and those who are no longer here.

A new varietal and story for us: The 2024 Columbia Gorge Nebbiolo.

Why Nebbiolo?
1️⃣ My dad and I loved the varietal from Piedmont, Italy, and bemoaned that the Willamette Valley is not generally warm enough to grow it.
2️⃣ Thanks to my friend, Anna, of , we found a vineyard- our first and likely last outside of the - with a legacy that is deeply personal to me. This vineyard on the Oregon side of the is on land once stewarded by a pioneering isei (first-generation Japanese American) farmer, entrepreneur, and community leader who helped shape agriculture in Oregon. Not surprisingly, he was imprisoned during World War II and his land taken. I thought it would be poetic justice for me, a yonsei (fourth-generation Japanese American), to make wine from this same land. In an act of fate, a new block of had just been planted when I reached out to the vineyard manager.

More will follow, but this is the first release that has been four years in the making.

✨I’m excited to introduce our newest release- our 2021 Brut Nature, which is our first ever Brut Nature! This is a sparkling wine crafted in the traditional méthode champenoise from Palmer Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir (74%) and Eola Springs Vineyard Chardonnay (26%).

🍾A traditional is the driest style of sparkling wine, bottled with little to no dosage, meaning no to minimal added sugar. After six months in barrel, we bottled the wine for secondary fermentation, where it has continued to rest on its lees for more than four years. That extended aging has brought texture, complexity, and a beautiful sense of precision to the final wine.

🥂This is a sparkling wine made for the table- oysters, fried dishes, late-night noodles, and conversation.
