One of several skin contact or orange ferments active at the winery right now. This one took a while to kick off, but it's rockin' now!

Maureen, John, Cowpie and I get a little break before more fruit comes in next week. A little bit of mid harvest rain has given us a few extra days to catch up on non harvest responsibilities.

Yakima harvest will finish next week. Then the Gorge is up next. Still waiting on Oregon!

Perfect, green going into yellow clusters of Viognier arrived today at the winery! One of two loads coming for the year. Tomorrow is our last Rattlesnake Hills AVA pick and then we move into the Naches Heights AVA of Washington.

A little bit of rain the forecast will give us some extra hangtime for the colder areas like White Salmon and the Willamette Valley.

The sweet, tropical smells of white ferments have filled the winery right now. Ferments are all clean and racing through primary fermentation.

It definitely feels like harvest now. ❤️ 🎵

Another stroll through the Rattlesnake Hills today on a beautiful Zillah, WA afternoon. Savagnin, Savagnin Rose, Nerello Mascalese, Rossese, Nerello Capuccio, Vitrarolo, Romorantin, Rabo de Ovelha, Castelão, Moscatel Roxo, Samarrinho, Formosa, Cornifesto, Casculho, Mourisco Roxo, Tinta Amarela, Brancellao, Caiño Tinto, Albilla do Avia, Timorasso, Nascetta, Pelaverga, Ruché and Gamba di Pernice are all brand new grape varieties for us in 2026.

2026 represents are largest production year with Swick Wines so far, but also our most eclectic in terms of grape varieties.

We've also expanded our wine aging program to include a few 4000 liter Qvevri along with some 1000 liter talhas from friends in Portugal.

For fermentation this year, we've added 4 granite 5000 liter Portuguese style lagares, 4 upright wooden 2000 liter fermenters.

Lastly, our pneumatic Bucher basket press. So nice to be working with this press after so many years using a bladder!
We're so excited for this year!!

Ike Willis was a person I got to know both in person and through his time as Zappa's singer and guitarist from 1978-1988. Hearing Joe's Garage album when I was about 16-- his voice was powerful and distinct! Amazing singer and great guitarist.

Ike lived in Portland, Oregon for a bit and you could find him at Holman's on 28th and East Burnside often. He was always fun to share a pint with.

Gonna miss you Ike! (Stratocaster with a whammy bar)

Our 2025 Sauvignon Blanc is ready to go!

Direct press SB from the Rattlesnake Hills AVA on sandy loam soils at 1100 elevaysh.

Aged in a mix of concrete eggs and larger oval oak casks.

So green veggie or overly tropical notes here that you typically get with cold ferments. Think sea salt, umami and green pears.

Excited to have some more white wine to share!

Our new vintage of Sauvignon Blanc is coming in hot 🥵 and spicy. Just in time for the sunny weather to commence here in Oregon.

100% SB from a certified organic vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills in Zillah, Washington at 1100 feet.
A mix of concrete Nomblot eggs and large oval casks on the aging.

In line with most of our whites-- think salt, lemon and hot stones. This is not a grassy or overly tropical SB. The native yeast and no temp control on ferments have a bit dot do with this.

A new release coming later this year...

Portugal 🇵🇹 has been a huge part of my winemaking and personal life for most of my adult life. I've been lucky enough to find some of my favorite Portuguese growing in very small amounts here in the Pacific Northwest. Touriga, Verdelho, Bastardo, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca etc etc..

This last bottling of TNac is probably going to be my last, unless I make wine in Portugal one day... I'd still love to try my hand at my #1 personal favorite grape ever-- BAGA!!

It's a bummer as a winemaker to want to keep making wines that are personal to you and keep you excited about the craft, but the reality is-- it's been increasingly difficult to sell wine that isn't one of the more mainstream varietals. Even Gruner, Melon, Zweigelt are passed over. Gamay, Grenache and Mourvèdre are tough.

So!!! It's back to just Pinot, Chard and Cab I guess?

Cheers to getting back to Pinots and Chard! Woohoo!
🎉 🥂
