Bide A Wee Farm

Bide A Wee Farm At bide a wee farm in Newberg, Oregon we've been raising registered Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep sin

bide a wee farm is located about half way between Newberg and Yamhill in the Chehalem Valley, about 25 miles Southwest of Portland, Oregon. We raise Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep – both are heritage breeds and are listed as 'threatened' breeds on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC) Conservation Priority List. We've been raising both breeds since 1994 and are just as enthusiastic about

them now as we were when we first started. Both Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep are terrific small farm breeds - they're hardy, disease resistant, prolific and multipurpose; supplying registered breeding stock, hand spinners fleeces, yarn, colorful sheepskins and lean, mild tasting lamb meat. Navajo-Churro sheep were the first breed of sheep to be included in the Slow Food USA Ark of Taste program.

After our lambs are born they spend a few days with Mom in a pen, then before they’re released, they’re photographed, they get an ear tag, and we fill out a lamb checklist. These photos are really just for documentation, but every now and then one of them just makes me smile. This is one of those. It shows the bide a wee farm shepherd who rarely appears in photos, holding a lamb who is posing beautifully, with her mom in the lower left corner making sure her baby is okay. ❤️

Killdeer are plentiful here and are thriving despite their insistence on laying their eggs in high traffic areas frequented by sheep. Despite that, I’ve never actually seen one of their nests. Until today.
