Hen profile: Meet Sassy our one and only Black Australorp. Sassy is also our largest breed. Her beautiful black feathers have a gorgeous green sheen to them in the sunlight. Sassy is a sweet natured and calm chicken that enjoys lap time and chest scratches. She lays a beautiful dark brown specked egg and has been very consistent since she started laying in Early July.

Some farm related happenings and fun.

I finally made some bales. Nothing usable but it’s good practice 😉.

It’s been a hot, then wet, summer so having Fall temps roll in was a welcome relief. The horses are shedding summer coats and getting fuzzy.

We’ve been practicing making hay at Sunrise Landing. After getting a late start this first cutting is just mulch type hay but we should get a nice 2nd cutting to feed the horses through the winter!

Also, while on a walk I noticed several bushes with lovely berries on them. It turns out we have a very healthy growth of Black Thimbleberries! They are delicious and make excellent pies and jam.

Happy 4th of July! Family and fun at Sunrise Landing Farm ❤️.
