Tomorrow is the day!! 🎄🎅🎁

Saturday Dec 13 we will be at the Newburyport Senior Center from 9-4 participating in the holiday market! No tickets required, just come down and pick up a little pocket size companion bear!

We've got all your favorite lip balm, lotion bars, propolis products, and of course the Salty Bees have whipped up some of their finest honey for you and your loved ones!

Hi friends! We'll be back at the Newburyport Holiday House Tour & Market a week from today! Come by the Newburyport Senior Center from 10am-5pm on Saturday December 13th to grab one of these cute mini bears in a TSA approved size for all your holiday travels! Tickets are not required to shop at the holiday market!

Of course we'll have all the usual gifts as well - 1lb jars of honey, lip balms, lotion bars and gift boxes for you or a loved one.

How do bees stay cool in the summer?

1. We help them get more air flow in their hives by opening up their entrance. In the early spring the entrance needs to stay small so the colony can stay warm and so they can (with their smaller spring population) defend the hive from intruders. But in the summer the population is booming and they can defend a large entrance that provides more air!

2. We have a water station with rocks and shells for them to land on. I know the water looks dirty, they like the extra minerals! Or maybe they like the taste, who am I to judge?

3. They fan the entrance to increase fresh air into the hive. See the bees who are hunched over on the entrance flapping their wings? They are creating a breeze for the hive!

4. If it's really hot, and especially when all the bees have returned home from the field, they will gather outside the hive, either on the entrance board or on the face of the hive. Just like us, bees like to hang out on their porch in hot weather!

Having fun making some propolis throat spray for the fall market at The Cottage Surf Shop on Plum Island tomorrow! Come see us Sunday 9/15 from noon-4pm and shop some amazing artists as well!

This throat spray includes two ingredients from the hive: honey and propolis, or 'bee glue'! Bees use propolis to seal up their hives and to protect the colony from disease! It has been used by multiple cultures since ancient times for its healing and antiseptic qualities. We love this throat spray to soothe a sore throat, when we feel a cold coming on, or just for fresher breath!
