Pollen is so bad right now it looks like a crime lab is testing my car for latent prints. Boy oh boy can I feel those allergies creeping in my nose and down my throat. Oof. And the headaches! I have been taking allergy medication, but I have also been adding in some whole food helpers to my diet.
Whole foods can be a game changer with your health. Here are some of the best things to add to your menu if the allergy season is taking you down:
Vitamin C and Folic Acid
Both help reduce inflammation, acting as natural antihistamines. Citrus fruits, bell peppers, and broccoli.
Quercetin
Foods rich in quercetin help control allergies by acting as antioxidants and prevents the immune system from releasing histamines. Think onions, garlic, apples, and berries.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Help to reduce airway inflammation and hyperactivity with rhinitis. Aka the itchy nose and throat. The powerful trio of salmon, mackerel, and tuna.
Ginger and Turmeric. Both known for their help in lessening inflammation. They are perfect for combatting histamine release as well.
And my favoriteā¦Pineapple!
This whole food co Tanis bromeliad, an enzyme that fights inflammation and reduces mucus in the sinuses. And it is over the top delicious!
I hope this helps in the ongoing battle with the cascading blanket of pollen everywhere. Donāt forget that you are not alone. We will get through this!!!
