I am excited to announce that Fernando Horowitz and I will be hosting the 2026 Texas KFPS Keuring on October 3, 2026, at Willow Draw Stables in Weatherford, Texas.
What is a keuring?
A Friesian Keuring is an official inspection and evaluation of Friesian horses conducted by judges from the Koninklijk Friesch Paarden-Stamboek (KFPS), the Friesian horse registry based in the Netherlands.
🐴 Why Bring Your Friesian to a KFPS Keuring?
A KFPS Keuring is more than an inspection—it’s an opportunity to receive an official evaluation, earn premiums and predicates, gain valuable breeding insight, and contribute to the continued improvement of the Friesian breed.
Horses are evaluated by official KFPS judges from the Netherlands and compared to the Friesian breed standard. The judges provide feedback on:
* Conformation
* Movement
* Breed type
* Overall quality
🏆 Earn Premiums and Predicates
Eligible horses may earn distinctions such as:
* First, Second, or Third Premium (foals to 2 years)
* Ster predicate (+3 years)
* Qualification toward higher predicates in the future
These recognitions stay with the horse’s record and can increase its value and prestige.
📈 Increase Breeding and Market Value
A horse that earns premiums or predicates often becomes more desirable for breeding and sales. Buyers appreciate having an official KFPS evaluation.
🧬 Evaluate Your Breeding Program
For breeders, a Keuring offers valuable insight into the quality of their breeding program. Evaluating both mares and stallions through the KFPS inspection process helps breeders make informed mating decisions and improve the quality of future generations.
🤝 Connect With the Friesian Community
Keurings bring together owners, breeders, trainers, and Friesian enthusiasts from across the region. It’s a great opportunity to network, learn, and meet other people who love the breed.
🎯 Set Goals for Your Horse
Many owners enjoy training and preparing for a Keuring as a way to showcase their horse and track its development over time.
❤️ Celebrate the Breed
Even if your horse doesn’t earn a premium or predicate, attending a Keuring is a unique experience and a chance to present your Friesian before the official Dutch judges who help preserve and improve the breed worldwide.
I hope is that every Friesian owner has the opportunity to participate in a Keuring, regardless of region, chapter, or venue. At the end of the day, we all share the same passion for the Friesian horse, and our collective goal is to preserve, promote, and continually improve this remarkable breed for future generations. 🇳🇱🖤🐴
Pictured below is Romeo ❤️.
This was the very first keuring I ever attended, and I was honored that Romeo and I took home a STER Predicate! It was an unforgettable experience.
I am especially grateful to Marvel Jeffcoat, who was my mentor and taught me the ins and outs of the Keuring process. Her guidance, knowledge, and encouragement gave me the confidence to become more involved.
