Sometimes I really don’t like the life we chose.

If you have livestock, eventually it will become dead stock.

On our farm we have a motto when it comes to caring for our animals. Our animals only have “one bad day”. We do everything we can to respect and honor them for the sustenance and happiness they provide us. Their “one bad day” is typically their last day. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case today.
Early this morning a big coyote got into our back pasture and took a lamb and injured another. This picture represents the cleaning of his wound. His injuries are not life threatening and he should make a full recovery. Just lots of blood.
We understand that nature can be cruel and other animals have to eat, but this feels particularly cruel. A new life, taken. It’s tough to grapple with. Because of our location, we cannot safely dispatch the coyote on our own. We have reported it to Washington state fish and game and we will see if they can handle it. For the next few weeks we will be keeping a close eye on the flock and will be vigilant about doing what we can to keep them safe. Farming isn’t for the faint of heart. It really sucks sometimes.
