This year I am being safer, not sorry. Great info below for all my Virgina gardeners.
Thinking of planting your tomatoes? Check the 10 day forecast! Temperatures are finally creeping upward in most parts of the state. If you live at the highest elevations, we have cool nights in our forecast! Beware chill injury.
Tomatoes should be planted out when soil temps are 60 F or warmer and night temps do not drop below 50 F.
Make sure to harden your plants off before putting them outside! Tender indoor seedlings need time to adjust to outdoor conditions, including night time lows and the hot sunshine!
If your seedlings still live indoors, move the trays outside to gradually adjust them rather than going straight from their sheltered indoor environment to the garden.

Beware! Chilly injury will get your vegetables if set out too soon! Do not put tomatoes or peppers out until: soil temps are 60 or warmer. Night time temps do not drop below 50. You've hardened off for 1-2 weeks prior to planting
