On December 18th, last year was one of the scariest days of my life when we witnessed our cute, tiny little backyard brook turn into a raging river wrapped around our entire home. The way it happened was quick and shocking, and by the time we thought maybe we should leave- we also realized it was too late. We thank God the biggest loss was my garden & our water for almost two months. Seeing our neighbors properties have damage, the roads torn apart and scary to drive on, cars that had been drug down the river- it was a lot.

That’s a huge reason supporting Western North Carolina is so dear to my heart. We are the small town, back roads, mountain living folk. I just knew once the flood happened and I started seeing the horror, devastation and trauma these people went and are going through, I needed to help.

Part of being a yoga teacher is being of service for others. I have a skill and a gift that I love sharing with others, and we’ve really put together a special night with yoga and sound bowls. This night will serve as an evening for you to relax, unwind and give yourself a little physical and mental break as we enter holiday season. A gratitude practice for ourselves, our community, and being for others. Whatever donation you contribute will go toward helping others get what they need after losing their homes, businesses, even their pets, friends and family members.

This will be a gentle, easy and restorative yoga class designed for all levels. If you’re new to yoga & want to check it out, or one of our current members, we’d love to all come together for something bigger than ourselves. During class, Colette will play sound bowls - an evening of healing for all. Please feel free to reach out with any further questions!

This month, I’m teaching a bunch of yoga! On top of my regular Tuesdays & Wednesdays, I’m covering Thursdays and Fridays for Destinee while she sets off for Italy. At the end of the month, I’m teaching our monthly community class. This is a donation based class open to all. I will be teaching a Gratitude practice, a few days before Thanksgiving. All proceeds will be donated toward the victims of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. I am grateful to share this practice with you, and help raise money for those entering winter & the holidays who were left with nothing after the devastating floods ❤️

A family who directly needs help - their house was swept away in the night. The mother held on to her son until his father could pull him out of the river, and then she swept away as well. Her body was found, she obviously didn’t make it- and the family has no home on top of it all.

“And as you trust the unknown, the universe dances with you in perfect harmony”

My meditation this morning held exactly what I’ve embodied this weekend. Connecting with nature helps my connection to my higher self, to all of creation. Nature reminds me to *trust*. It helps me feel grounded, centered, in my being. Nothing else matters but the moment right there in front of me. I’m so grateful that my foot has healed enough and the weather has aligned for me to get in some walking! The leaves are shifting, today is the harvest full moon 🌝, and the season is changing in just a few days. Letting go of control, letting go the need to know - and breathing in trust ✨

If you were ever wondering where “The Hideaway” got its name, we owe that to my dad. Two years ago this day, we lost my father. Just 3 weeks later, I moved from NJ to Maine to live with Eddie. It was a whirlwind few months, both happy and sad. I have memories of packing, while planning a funeral service. Saying goodbye to friends and family, while saying the ultimate goodbye to my dad. So much of what I’ve wanted to built here are roots from my upbringing. Gardening, from scratch cooking & baking, living with the earth. Let’s go back 6 years ago when life circumstances brought me & my broken heart to the upstairs “apartment” at my dad’s. My youngest brother had also temporarily been brought there. We were all a mixed bag of figuring life out when my dad posted this on his page. The Hideaway, a place pf healing and helping and lots of love. That sign now hangs on this home we rent, and will go with me wherever I go. The second photo is my pop in his garden planting peas, the spring before he passed. You can see the garlic he planted growing in front of him. The garlic I brought to Maine and planted in my very own garden. I still can’t comprehend why I lost that garlic in the flood, but I do try and think it was dad’s way of diverting all of that water away from the house, essentially saving us and our home. Life is wild. Death is weird. I miss you dad, and thank you for helping me be who I am. Perhaps maybe more understanding as to why I am so strongly called to head back home to Jersey. I miss my family, and my roots. I tried to plant them here, yet they were ripped from the ground. And I am grateful. I don’t for one second regret my time here, and getting to share so much of this life in Maine. It has meant far more than I can put into words. You have all been a huge part of keeping my dad’s memory alive. Thank you all for being here 💚

Yesterday’s birthday sticky buns for Eddie! 🥳

Made with chia seeds (instead of eggs) & vegan butter, local maple syrup and crunchy walnuts, they take time, and lots of love and I’m so happy to bake them (& eat them!) with mine ❤️

This is a post that is bittersweet to make. So let’s get right to it. This week will be my last whole sale drop off & market for the Hideaway. While it wasn’t an easy or quick decision, it is necessary for me right now.

I’ve sat with the direction of my life for several months now, and so much has naturally led me here. I fought it for a while, but admitting what I need has felt like a huge relief. Ultimately I want to head back to New Jersey and in order to make that happen, I have to make up for a few big losses we’ve suffered this year. The flood took our garden and the investment that was was devastating, it also halted production when it compromised our well water for several weeks. Between everything, both of my cats have had health issues with unexpected hefty vet bills. And that leads us to my foot injury that stopped me in my tracks, unable to teach for a chunk of time, and it totally killed my vibe for the farmstand. Life is doing its thing & I’m riding the wave the best I can!

Though I have received huge support from the community in purchasing my baked goods and soo many words of kindness, encouragement and help, my motivation is waning. When I started baking publicly it was fun, and it still is - but the business aspects, paperwork/taxes/bookkeeping, rising ingredient costs, and my small kitchen cramps that fun a bit. The stress is starting to outweigh the joy.

Sometimes the universe makes things super uncomfortable in order to make a shift. I surrender to what is, and I’m feeling pretty good about it now.

Right now, I’d rather support other small businesses instead of being one! Hope to see you this weekend at the market! & if not, we’ll be floating around town this winter 🙂
