These are perfect for making a rich broth for soup or mushroom jerky.

We are grateful for all of this rain keeping our crops healthy and for bringing out all the treasures in the woods.

GREEN!

Permaculture means embracing your environment. This creates a great habitat for cultivated as well as wild foods.

We love foraging. Here is a delicious dish our resident chef/farmer cooked up with some delicious wild edibles.

Stinging nettle green curry over basmati rice cooked in ramp butter and topped with jalapeño, asparagus, edamame, fiddleheads, and morels.

First Morel of the season!

Morels are delicious and one of the first edible species to kick off the foraging season.

Morels were our first find and really sent us down a rabbit hole of citizen mycology and mushroom cultivation. This mushroom will always be special to us.

Scarlet runner bean harvest time!

We harvested scarlet runner beans as a dried bean this year, but they can be harvest early on and be eaten similar to edamame.

We can’t wait to make soup out of these beautiful beans.

Rough night on the farm last night.

We had a freak storm roll through around 7pm. The wind was able to gain momentum when it rolled through our fields and up the hill. The gusts were probably 90 mph.

Two coops were destroyed. One was launched 40 feet. 2 were flipped upside down, but still seem structurally sound. 2 were spun sideways.

The chickens and turkeys were rescued from the ruins, but man were they cold and wet. Only a few minor injuries!

On the farm we work with nature, but sometimes nature works against us. This was the most damage we have incurred from a storm.

Today is another day and we will rebuild.

At Dark Moon Produce we use a scythe to hand cut all of the grass for our livestock.

Mowing with a scythe is a skilled task that takes time to fully learn. But by doing so, we are able to cut down on the utilization of heavy machinery on the farm.

The hand made hay bales pictured here are an example of our decorative hay bales for sale. We make these from the grass that doesn’t make the cut for our livestock but is great to decorate your home for fall!
