The first ever Flinchy's Turkey Smoke Off is going down this Sunday from 1-3pm.

Matt Flinchbaugh, owner of Flinchy's will be preparing a spatchcocked bird, while Mike Leonard, owner of Ace Hardware in Camp Hill, is going with a whole smoked turkey.

If you're in the area, make sure to stop in for a High Road Brewing Company draft on the newly renovated Trainwreck Deck & try some of our delicious pasture raised turkey.

And just like that, our 2023 poultry season is finished!

Yesterday we loaded up the turkeys for transport to our USDA inspected processor. I'm really pleased with how they turned out & can't wait to cook some up for Thanksgiving.

I'm planning on deep frying one & will be spatchcocking another to cook on a pellet smoker.

Jail break alert! Since we moved the turkeys out to the pasture they've been mostly staying inside the electrified netting but every once in awhile one flies out.

The electric netting is there for their protection and is the main way we protect them from ground predators like foxes. Luckily they don't roam far & are usually just walking back and forth, trying to figure out how to get back in with their friends.

45 years & counting. That's how long our family has been cultivating these beautiful tomatoes.

My grandfather was an avid gardener & owned a plumbing & heating business for many years. In the late 70's he was given a few seeds by one of the salesmen he dealt with named George & he grew them every year until he passed away in 2021. Legend has it George's father brought the seeds with him on his boat ride from Italy when he immigrated to the US.

We don't know what variety they are but are working on figuring that out. My grandfather always referred to them as "George's tomato" & I've always called them "Pappap tomatoes". The fruit is very meaty, excellent to eat fresh & are great for making sauce due to their low liquid & seed content.

We hope to continue the tradition for the next 45+ years & build on all the work the late, great Patsy DePalma put into these unique tomatoes.

Happy turkey sounds! These guys are growing quick & about to make their move from sleeping in the barn to sleeping out on the pasture.

Turkeys are pretty active foragers & the first thing they do every morning when they get let out is search for bugs & fresh seed heads.

The amount of fruit that cherry tomatoes put off is pretty impressive & we're always looking for different uses for them...

The amount of fruit that cherry tomatoes put off is pretty impressive & we're always looking for different uses for them aside from fresh eating. These are about to hit the smoker & are going into a batch of roasted corn salsa.
