Henderson residents are rallying to save a local family’s domesticated camels after the city’s animal-control division ruled the animals illegal under current codes, putting a 27‑year petting zoo business on the line.

The case exposes a hole in Henderson’s updated livestock rules, which legalized roosters and expanded protections for horses, goats, pigs and other barnyard animals — but never mentioned camels at all.

The camels belong to Nancy Rouas, who has run Petting Zoo 2 U from her two‑acre Henderson property since 1997. Animal control first showed up over a complaint about a rooster, then cited the camels after spotting them in her yard.

Now Rouas is fighting to keep animals that have been domesticated for roughly 3,000 years and once hauled freight across Nevada mining country in the 1870s.

Do you think Henderson city government should leave the camels alone?

In case you've ever wanted to know what it looks like when a camel takes a dust bath.... for the record, it's hysterical in person. Legs flopping all around, the most awkward roll/shuffle, grunts and groans. 😂😂😂 He was so happy though!
