Happenings at the farm 🌿
If you have been to the farm recently, you may have noticed that we are adding something to the landscape. With the help of our good friend Brent, we are building a pergola! We are incredibly excited to create a peaceful seating area that overlooks the garden. While we are still brainstorming the perfect climbing plants to grow up the structure, we already cannot wait for it to be finished. It will be the perfect spot for visitors to relax, enjoy lunch, and allow grandparents to happily watch their grandkids run through the fields without having to trek up and down the hill.
Behind the scenes, we have been crazy busy preparing for the upcoming U-Pick season. As anyone living here knows, spring is never easy in Michigan—it can be 80° one day, snowing the next, with severe thunderstorms in between! Last year, we did our planting right after Mother’s Day, only to get hit by a surprise frost in early June that completely destroyed five of our herb beds and heavily damaged several others. We definitely learned our lesson and are not rushing the planting process this year, no matter how giddy we are to get started! Luckily, it seems like the extreme cold is finally behind us, so we are slowly planting our new herbs.
Among these new additions is Siberian Ginseng, which has become our newly discovered love. It has done wonders in supporting our dad's cardiovascular health, and the health of our customers too. As an amazing adaptogen, it naturally helps the body manage stress and mild depression, just making life feel a bit brighter overall. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we are adding it to our U-Pick lineup this year so that you can harvest it yourself to craft your own homemade teas, tinctures, and remedies!
We will do a thorough write-up on Siberian Ginseng soon!
