Act fast TODAY: Ecology Explorer summer science and art overnight camp with Northwest Campus and Alaska Gold and Resort begins this Friday June 20-26 in Nome. We have immediate openings for Nome youth ages 13-17. Students will receive Free tuition, accommodations, meals, and an exciting hands-on outdoor science and art themed program consisting of packrafting, metal detecting, fishing, reindeer husbandry, medicinal plants, painting, engineering, and panning for gold.

The ranch is by appointment only. White vans using it for touring point are doing so with out permission and exploiting. There is no agreements with any tourism outfit to use the ranch as tourism location. Anyone doing so is exploiting Indigenous livelihoods.

“In Alaska, reindeer are much more real than the fantasy animals that pull Santa’s sleigh. Introduced to Alaska from Siberia by the US government in the 1890s, reindeer were part of a strategy to solve food shortages among the Native peoples after the gold rush. Today, reindeer provide food security and economic opportunities for the Alaskan Native community. Even more so than farming, reindeer herding requires a deep understanding of the needs of Indigenous communities and academic science—as well as how to navigate and influence local, state, and federal policies.”
