We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shawn Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shawn, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I don’t think I was born resilient. I think resilience was built one difficult chapter at a time.
When I was 20 years old, I was in a car accident that took the life of my 10-week-old son and left me pronounced dead twice. Recovering from that taught me that life can change in an instant, but it also taught me that I had a choice about what came next.
Over the years, that lesson has been tested again and again. I’ve survived breast cancer, built and rebuilt my business through setbacks, and gone back to college in my fifties while starting over professionally. None of those experiences were things I would have chosen, but each one strengthened my ability to face the next challenge.
My resilience also comes from my faith, my children, and a deep belief that my experiences have a purpose beyond me. Every obstacle has given me an opportunity to help someone else, whether that’s encouraging another entrepreneur, supporting a cancer survivor, or showing someone that it’s never too late to begin again.
Today, resilience isn’t about pretending life is easy. It’s about believing that difficult circumstances don’t get the final word. No matter how many times I’ve been knocked down, I’ve learned that I can get back up, adapt, and keep moving forward.
