Well... my Beltie herd has expanded. 🤦‍♀️

Everyone knows Trinket, my little black "Beltie" poodle. I recently added a silver poodle, so naturally I figured I now had a black Beltie and a dun Beltie.

Then last night, Trinket made what can only be described as a series of poor life choices.

She decided to get WAY too friendly with a skunk and got absolutely blasted. 💨🦨

Cue the middle-of-the-night emergency spa treatment: hydrogen peroxide, Dawn, and baking soda. It worked... mostly.

The black Beltie is now a RED Beltie. 😂

Bless her heart. Somewhere my cattle are judging her, and honestly... they should.

(P.S. If anyone needs me, I'll be over here sniffing my dog every 10 minutes wondering if that's skunk or just my imagination…)

When people say, ‘don’t worry, they’ll move.’ Nope. Not our cows. 60 acres to roam and they block the driveway. 🤣

We survived the storm. The Fourth of July apparently celebrated by reminding us what life was like before electricity. We’re currently living off a generator, chainsaws, and pure pioneer spirit.

The straight-line winds left our property looking like it had been hit by a tornado. Our chick pen flooded, and we sadly lost 7–8 babies. Thankfully, the kids acted quickly, and we were able to rescue the rest before all 100+ chicks were lost.

With the power out, Sean got the generator running while I spent from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. on the back porch cuddling and drying soaked chicks. It was a long night, but we’re grateful to still have 50 chicks, 20 guineas, 20 ducklings, 10 goslings, and 3 turkeys. Losing some of their favorite babies was especially hard on the kids.

The horses and cattle came through unharmed. Around 4 a.m. we ran out of gasoline, so Sean had to chainsaw fallen trees just to get out and refill our gas cans. Then came hours of box blading the driveway to make it passable again.

We’re still without power, but we have food, each other, and a lot to be thankful for. This could have been so much worse.

We hope everyone in Norman is safe and doing okay. Thank you to everyone who checked in on us—we truly appreciate your kindness.
