The rest of the broilers go to the freezer tomorrow, and I’m feeling a bit sad to see them go. The Pioneer broilers really exceeded my expectations. They’re funny birds that love to dig holes, find a good bush to hide under and come over to check you out. They grew quick, but their bones, hearts and lungs kept up with them and they could just keep on going if I let them. That was kind of the point, but I don’t have the “ticking time-bomb” feeling I’d get with the Cornish. I can confidently say, these birds lived great lives. They have no reason to suspect tomorrow will be any different, I’ll keep it that way till the last moment.
I definitely recommend trying these. I’ve never been in love with the rangers, but the meat texture on the Cornish was always very “meh”. These hit the mark for us, we will be doing them again in 2027. I always bulk order chicks and have extras.
