The last year and a half has been a long, brutal process of refiguring out what I am capable of. There are many days where I don’t want to be in the wild because people’s perception of me doesn’t match my new reality, and bringing people to speed is a painful reminder of this process. But without all y’all holding space and keeping the spirit alive I simply don’t know what I’d be doing.

At our annual meeting, we reflected on two years of growth as the Summer Kitchen Cooperative — growth that’s often invisible but deeply felt. Every conversation, every shared skill, every collective decision has brought us closer to creating a stronger, more resilient future for farmers and eaters.

We’re energized for the year ahead and can’t wait to share the abundance coming from this community of dedicated growers.

It feels strange to share the farm right now, so far removed from the heart of the metro. And yet, we know the times in Minnesota are heavy.

But some things haven’t changed: the needs of farmers, the human need for food, beauty and connection to the land.

This morning I opened a jar of crabapple butter I made last fall with a friend. It was a reminder that food doesn’t just exist. It exists because we show up, because we participate.

Every ingredient, every jar, every bite carries labor and connection. Local food systems work this way—they only work when we are part of them.

Let’s be real though, this extends beyond food. We need each other now more than ever. I’m just a farmer so I see the world through the lens of my work on the farm.. but if the jars remind me of anything, it’s that we’re not alone in this world.
