Did you know… I’m an RVer! This is my fifth wheel and I dream of taking it on the road a little more someday. And what would be even better would be to take it to FARMS of course!

Have y’all ever heard of Harvest Hosts? It’s a way for fellow RVers to stay on farms FOR FREE and a way for farmers to better tell their farm story to visitors/guests.

If you are a guest on the farm, it’s polite to buy something from them…whether it’s their fresh produce, meat, wine or more! It’s a win-win. Y’all know I LOVE connecting farmers and consumers and this is a great way to connect people.

Are you a farmer who wants to sign up? Use my affiliate link and get more customers! https://www.harvest-hosts.com/25FW7MN/3QQG7/?uid=8

And if you have a camper like me, connect with thousands of like minded RV friends through the farming community here: https://www.harvest-hosts.com/25FW7MN/2CTPL/

It really is an AMAZING business model. And it’s more than just farms too! Golf courses, distilleries, breweries and more. Have fun! 😊

Yesterday morning my mother indicated to me that there was another beverage on the market claiming to be better than the clean and clear labeled product our dairy cattle produce, MILK.

I am familiar with the nut based beverages soy, almond, etc. which tout "milk" in their name. As most of us learned In general biology milk is only produced naturally from female mammals after they have given birth. Yet the beverages made from nuts and now peas are made and touted as milk.
This has been very frustrating to me.

This afternoon I had the time to research the web site of the new pea beverage (Ripple), and I was affronted with a negative statement about dairy milk just as I was routed to their site.

I am getting tired of companies that need to use the name "milk" to describe a product which contains no dairy products. It is a ploy to entice consumers to try a product believing it is dairy because milk is in the name!

Our dairy herd was displayed in the MOO BOOTH at the Minnesota State Fair last August and our family had the opportunity to talk to thousands of consumers about dairy farming, our cattle, and the wonderful product they produce. Consumers were interested in learning about the clean and clear label on dairy products.

Clean & Clear foods are those with few ingredients and shared in a clear manner. Milk contains milk and vitamins D and A. Yet with this clean label it contains 8 grams of natural protein, naturally produced calcium, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B-12, vitamin A, and vitamin D. All in a package of healthy nutrition that can be easily utilized in our body. For those that are lactose intolerant, there are dairy products with the lactose (milk sugar) removed.

The public's return to butter is another example of a clear and clean label - so simple - cream and salt rather than the complicated components found in margarine.

Yet this new product is not so clean and clear. Water, pea protein, cane sugar, sunflower oil, less than .5% of vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2, DHA Algal oil, calcium phosphate, sunflower lecithin, natural flavors, sea salt, organic guar gum, gellan gum.

I proud that our cows can utilize feed humans can't eat and can produce the wonderful produce we all enjoy - MILK.

Our family and 16 of our milking cows were asked to be the display herd in the MOO Booth at the Great Minnesota Get Together, better known as the MINNESOTA STATE FAIR! If you have never attended the MSF it is the greatest fair in the nation and offers fun and learning experiences throughout the large and beautiful grounds.

I almost forgot we also have a two week old Jersey bull calf here that is looking for a name. Children and adults have the opportunity to visit him and then offer a name for him. A winning name will be chosen each day and a prize will be sent to that lucky winner.

Besides our normal work we have been busy setting up our display, caring for our cattle, yearlings and young stock, trying to bale some hay and normal chores on the farm. None of this would be possible without the dedicated work from everyone at Diamond S Farm.

We moved cattle in on Tuesday night August 23, 2016 cared for them on Wednesday, August 24 both at home and at the MSF and then attended the Princes's Kay of the Milky Way banquet as part of the journey that ended with the crowning of the 63rd. Princess Kay.

Our granddaughter, Meghan, was one of the 12 finalists and she made us very proud as she exhibited her passion and love for the dairy industry. She received one of the 3 scholarships, was name Miss Congeniality and was also one of the final 3 candidates. She will be having her head carved in butter on Sunday, August 28, 2016. Come watch this 90 pound block of butter be shaped into her likeness in the Dairy Building. Meghan joins the other Butterheads in our family, Kari, 44th Princess Kay of the Milky Way and finalist, Jenni Drinkall Skiba, Princess Kay finalist.
