Yesterday morning my mother indicated to me that there was another beverage on the market claiming to be better than the clean and clear labeled product our dairy cattle produce, MILK.
I am familiar with the nut based beverages soy, almond, etc. which tout "milk" in their name. As most of us learned In general biology milk is only produced naturally from female mammals after they have given birth. Yet the beverages made from nuts and now peas are made and touted as milk.
This has been very frustrating to me.
This afternoon I had the time to research the web site of the new pea beverage (Ripple), and I was affronted with a negative statement about dairy milk just as I was routed to their site.
I am getting tired of companies that need to use the name "milk" to describe a product which contains no dairy products. It is a ploy to entice consumers to try a product believing it is dairy because milk is in the name!
Our dairy herd was displayed in the MOO BOOTH at the Minnesota State Fair last August and our family had the opportunity to talk to thousands of consumers about dairy farming, our cattle, and the wonderful product they produce. Consumers were interested in learning about the clean and clear label on dairy products.
Clean & Clear foods are those with few ingredients and shared in a clear manner. Milk contains milk and vitamins D and A. Yet with this clean label it contains 8 grams of natural protein, naturally produced calcium, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B-12, vitamin A, and vitamin D. All in a package of healthy nutrition that can be easily utilized in our body. For those that are lactose intolerant, there are dairy products with the lactose (milk sugar) removed.
The public's return to butter is another example of a clear and clean label - so simple - cream and salt rather than the complicated components found in margarine.
Yet this new product is not so clean and clear. Water, pea protein, cane sugar, sunflower oil, less than .5% of vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2, DHA Algal oil, calcium phosphate, sunflower lecithin, natural flavors, sea salt, organic guar gum, gellan gum.
I proud that our cows can utilize feed humans can't eat and can produce the wonderful produce we all enjoy - MILK.
