There’s big news from one of our foremost sources of inspiration, .farm

Two longtime employees of Kitchen Garden Farm in Sunderland, MA will purchase the farm this spring from founders Caroline Pam and Tim Wilcox. Max Traunstein, 31, of Sunderland and Lilly Israel, 31, of Amherst have worked at the farm for 10 and 8 years, respectively. Both are graduates of agriculture programs at the University of Massachusetts and have worked alongside Tim and Caroline to make the farm into a successful business.

I first heard about them when I was a green hot sauce blogger in Dublin, Ireland in 2015. They did a blurb on our site about their fermented seed to sauce hot sauces grown and made a few miles from my alma mater UMass Amherst.

Upon my return to the states, I made sure to attend their annual Chilifest when I started . It’s also where we sold our first bottle in a market setting.

I tell people Chilifest was my all-time favorite hot sauce / pepper festival. From the landscape to the bounty and colors of the peppers, and the warmth and curiosity glowing off the people there, it truly inspired us and fueled our passion.

I have interviewed quite a few hot sauce makers and farmers through the Craft Hot Sauce Podcast and one of my favorite conversations was with Tim and Caroline recorded a few years ago (link in bio). They talk frankly about their challenges starting off, the connectivity of their crew, where they drew inspiration from their time working on Italian farms and much more. It's a great listen if I do say so myself.

Seeing how they've built something from scratch, provided an enriching atmosphere for their crew to learn and grow, and having Kitchen Garden Farm live on without them inspires me and so many others that value local agriculture, community and good s**t! Thank you, congratulations and can't wait for the 2024 pepper season!

Our first in person BYOHS was a success tonight!

Our goal with these events is to create community among hot sauce makers, share ideas and sauces, and have good craic!

All were accomplished tonight 🔥🎉

Mark featured "some like it hot" a Marliyn Monroe inspired Manhattan sauce with cherries, bourbon, and Peach scorpion peppers.

Ramon with a tomato-less salsa. Made with bell pepper, scotch bonnet, culantro and more

Steve with Eve's Deminse, an apple Cinnamon mix with local apples, spices and blend of super hots.

And lastly, Matt with a dragonfruit, kiwi, scotch bonnet sauce.

All sauces were totally unique and delicious. Well done all! Next month is online and then we're back in person in June.

Drop us a line if you'd like to join us for our next BYOHS. No commercial sauces, just for the love of the craft!

This Wednesday we have our first in person BYOHS in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Do you know anyone who makes homemade sauces in Massachusetts? Let em know about this show and tell and community event!

This will be a regular repeating event online and in person so keep an eye out for future dates if you can't make this one!
