It is with a sad heart we have to announce we will not be producing for a while. We had a very tragic encounter with a predator that has taken out almost our entire flock. We had a few survivors, but sadly they are succumbing to their injuries.
We plan to get back into business as soon as possible, but we are taking the time to grieve and heal from this tragic loss. Our kiddos grew up with these chickens, helped build this coop, raise the chicks, and they are hurting from this loss.
Rest in peace our sweet hens and roosters.

Thank you for your years of service Pretty Boy. You wouldn't go in for the night until every lady had made it in. You stood at the door ensuring all the ladies were safe before going in for the night. You were the first to crow, never aggresive to us or the lady, but stood your ground against predators. We are happy we could provide an open range home for you to thrive and you will be missed my sweet Pretty Boy.

A while back we trimmed the roosters talons and we forgot to post! The kids loved the learning experience. The Blu-Kote got us, but we washes it off after lots of scribbing...lol.

Saw this on another farm page and just had to share.

I have been super frustrated over this lately, after seeing something like this floating around I though this was a great time to share a littke information on store bough eggs!

Saw these prices for eggs at Walmart this weekend.

WALMART.

And I wanted to take a second to educate on what the difference is.

In the first photo you see: Free Run Omega-3 eggs for $6.94
Free run= not in a cage, but still in a community building. Think 10,000 chickens on the concrete floor of a large "barn". No access to the outside. But they aren't kept in cages, right?
Omega-3 = an omega 3 powder supplement sprinkled in their processed feed. Much the same that we as humans would take in a vitamin supplement. Less than 3% of that translates to the eggs.

In the second photo you see: organic, free range brown eggs for $6.28 (was $7.07)
Organic= 20% of their feed is certified organic. Yup. That's it.
Free range= they aren't in cages. They MIGHT have access to a covered, outdoor run but it isn't mandatory.
Brown eggs do not equal unbleached. All commercial eggs go through a bleach bath.

In the third picture you will see: free range eggs for $6.27
Free range just means no Cages. They are allowed to live in a community style. Often they have a covered outdoor run, but it isn't mandatory to have that in your advertising.

All of these eggs are way more expensive than ours. With advertising that makes you think your getting the good, all natural stuff, when in reality....if you saw how these chickens were raised you'd cry over the mistreatment 😭

But for $3 (or 2 dozen for $5!) You can get eggs from Good Nuff Farms!

It means our chickens are doing what you think Free Range Chickens are doing. Running around the grass, eating bugs, and soaking up the sunlight. (Because did you know, that a chicken that has access to sunlight lay's an egg that 50% higher in Vitamin D?)

Someone holds our chickens and we hatch them from eggs here on the farm. The color of the yolks, the thickness of the shells, and the creamy taste of the eggs cannot be bought in stores.

So if your going to spend $7/at Walmart for "free run" eggs, why not support a local farm and a small business? Support any of the many small farmers this summer and taste the difference for yourself.
