Locally grown salads are the best salads. I’ve honestly never had to worry about getting sick from some mass produced, non-mass processed food in my life. I hear about lettuce, spinach, or leafy greens that were contaminated because some company cut corners or some administration cut standards… But when you buy local, when you buy from small businesses or farmers they have that care with their products that big corps never will. These smaller businesses whether in this case it be Amish or local farmers it helps the local economy. The local community harbors local unity.

This Toot Valley Farm is a local Amish Farm Produce/Nursery Farm that is always bumpin & vibrant with energy. They have a wonderful produce selection as well as all the gardening supplies you would ever need. There are desserts, local cheeses, crafts, & other cottage core needs.

Located on Crowl Toot rd between Oxford & Elkdale Roads outside Oxford PA & Lincoln University. There are 2 other Amish Produce/Stores on this rd so really the choices are endless.

The Sweet Salad Mix was yummy. It had different lettuce & leafy greens all mixed together. I added some chunks of cheddar cheese along with caesar dressing. I almost added some crackers as croutons but then I remembered I had some movie popcorn I needed to finish. It was a different kind of salad but it hit the spot. Fresh crispy yet splashy leafy green bites were splendid. The frieze added that nice bitterness to the rest of the sweeter romaine & red lettuce. It was a lovely way to enjoy dinner.

ps: I understand the Amish don’t always treat their animals nicely. I understand they have some practices that aren’t kosher in a sense. But it is nice having produce neat by. I try to stick to ones I know treat their animals better and I only visit the ones whom I have a friendly relationship with.

It’s always nice having friends that fish. I have the means but the time…anyway it’s nice getting fish from friends. I am slightly ‘eww’ for a moment but then I begin preparing. It was frozen solid so I preheated the oven at 450. I had one container left in the back of my fridge of the hot sauce I made last fall. My Slurry of Doom blend. It was the bottom of the barrel so they say but it remained sealed. I dumped all of it out over the frozen trout knowing it’s rage level heat would add the vinegar & citric acid typically used with fish. I also added some olive oil and wrapped it up in tinfoil. I would say ai probably cooked it in the oven for about 35 mins. I let it rest in the foil too for a remaining 5 mins. It was perfect, pull off the bone and the hotbsauce slightly mellowed out. I added some smokey habanero powder & some mayo. I set two pieces of bread in the juices to soak up that fishy spicy essence. It was a different kind of dinner but it was tasty. Im glad I decided to make it. Happy Trails & Happy Cooking 💜🤙 Friar Fajita

Fennel Bulb & Stuffed Chicken. The chicken comes prepackaged stuffed with stuffing & seasoned with paprika. I added some olive oil the bottom of a pyrex pan & preheated the oven to 425. I cut the fennel bulb in half & dusted them with a pork rub seasoning. Then chopped up some of the sprigs for extra flavor. I put it in the oven for about 40 mins. The stuffing adds a different variable to the recipe but it still tastes great. I had it with some potato chips at work for that extra bit of starch…I forgot to make rice. Tonight I had an opportunity to join some locals in the Taste of Oxford Tour hosted by Oxford Mainstreet, Inc.. It was a delicious stroll the ever evolving Oxford, PA. Four local eateries were the highlight of this adventure & they were all happy to see us.

We started at Market St Cheesesteaks which is the youngest business out of the four, but they are already making waves. Aside from our Taste of Oxford crew plenty of people were coming in & ordering; much like the other businesses on this venture. We were all given about a 1/3 of a cheesesteak with crinkle cut fries. There were seeded & seedless bread available but it didn’t seem to matter; there were yums all around. It had a good cheese to meat ratio. It was the og setting but let the imagination wonder about the other creations on the menu…the Mexican Cheesesteak?!? I’ll have to go back for that one. The fries were good too, not many places do crinkle cut & they were fluffy yet crispy.

Next the Tour headed up around the corner to Teens Place for a tasting of one of their famous appetizers. It was a BBQ Swedish Meatball of sorts, if I were to say. It was a hearty meatball with a thick bbq glaze. The bbq glaze was slightly smoky with a sweet pop. I liked it. Id have to go back to see what a full app looks like. Teens has amazing chicken if you haven’t stopped in for their chicken sammie. Im not particularly a cornbread guy but theirs is slamtastic, I will happily take seconds.

We meandered down the street to La Sicilia Pizza Pasta Grille, one of the longest existing restaurants on the strip. Once you get food from there you understand why. Tonight we were given our choice of two pastas…that I wish I paid more attention to what they were called. But they were both delicious; one a red sauced short noodle & the other an Fettuccine alfredo of sorts with zucchini. I believe the zucchini alfredo was a chef’s special but the penne pasta in red sauce is available all the time. They also have amazing pizzas & a wonderful Mediterranean salad.

I hope you saved room for dessert…there is always room for dessert…maybe even two desserts. The last stop of the Taste of Oxford Tour was the always wonderful La Lupita, ice cream. They have one of the best assortments & varieties of desserts, ice cream, & chilled treats in Oxford in my honest opinion. There are also some walking tacos & assorted snacks available. With the tour I went with the Queso & Blackberry in a waffle cone. If you haven’t had queso ice cream yet…you are missing out & it pairs wonderfully with the blackberry. As I said one dessert isn’t enough so I went back for seconds (that I purchased of course). I went with a double scoop of the Duvalin & Mamey in a waffle cone. The Duvalin appeared to be reminiscent of Neapolitan ice cream, while the Mamey was new to me. It had notes of honey & apricot with hints of vanilla. It honestly tasted like a melon at first then evolved into other flavors. If you are in need of a sweet treat, definitely stop on into La Lupita, or if you need a piñata you won’t find anywhere else.

The Taste of Oxford Tour hosted by OMI was a fun time with friends & the community. It was nice to meet some of them on a more personal level too. New faces to the area & some that have always been. Either way it was a great sense of community & food always seems to be a great unifier in community. Happy people eating, chatting, living together. I will have to definitely keep the next tour on my radar; if you’re interested as well, check out the Oxford Mainstreet Inc page (it should be clickable above). Get out there & enjoy some tasty adventures of your own with family and friends. Don’t forget to support local & small businesses now more than ever. They are also an important part of our community. A kaleidoscope of culture creates a happy environment for us all.

It’s always a tasty experience at Istanbul Grill in Newark, DE. If you haven’t been there yet you’re missing out. They always greet you with a smile & are ready to es**rt you through a wonderful meal. There are plenty of tasty options; it’s hard to settle on one. I definitely have my favorites.

Like the Lahmacum; which is basically a Turkish Pizza with minced meat & a charred thin crust. It is accompanied by some veggies and is delightful. As was the Sak S**a; a chilled appetizer of salad and pan fried veggies served with different breads. The star of my meal was the Alexander Kebab (Iskender), a gyro served with layered Turkish bread, some yogurt with a red tomato sauce. It was dynamite & completely hit the spot.

I cannot recommend Istanbul Grill enough , you’ll have to stop in & curate your own delicious adventure.

Angeli's Pizzeria in Baltimore more specifically Little Italy was a very beautiful & vibe friendly place. I did not get many pictures in the hustle & bustle of the group I was with Saturday but if you’re in the area stop on in. They were not ready for the group I was with but they handled it with grace & smiles.

When I got the opportunity I ordered a slice of their pepperoni pizza & a refreshing bottle of Heneken Zero. It was a deluxe sized slice if I do say so myself. It was adorned with the lil pepperonis & it was joyfully delicious. I don’t see a lot of places using the lil pepperonis so it was nice to see. The crust was light fluffy and slightly charred. It was a thin crust with a sweet note that paired well with the salty pop of the pepperoni and the balanced cheese.

As my friends sipped on cocktails & sangria’s I noshed on the slice. It was a nice snack & drink to enjoy whilst chatting away with friends. My apologies to the other customers who witnessed our parade but I could tell they enjoyed their time too. It looks like Angeli’s has a handful of locations; if you see one definitely stop in & check out their tasty little community. Delicious Adventures are always to be had, I look forward to going back to try more.

The other night I had the privilege of wandering Little Italy in Baltimore, MD with some friends whilst doing a bar crawl. The Italian Disco is so much more than just a bar; it’s also a niche pizzeria & restaurante. It had quite the vibe inside with a unique but very Italian decor. The staff was friendly and they did their best, but we were a definitely an unexpected surprise for them on a Saturday afternoon. They handled us well & I appreciate their time.

We were a party/group 30ish ordering pizza & cocktails. I myself partook in the delicious NA Kolsh beer they had. I believe it was from Best Day Brewing. It was quite tasty & refreshing. It hit the spot for me on the muggy day we had. My friends seemed to enjoy their cocktails & prosecco. I noticed plenty of happy faces enjoying their elixirs of spirits or draft. The selection on tap seemed to be pretty well as well. I have mentioned before that I don’t drink but if I still did I would definitely try some of Italian Disco’s cocktails…or at least sip on the Strega they had adorning the bar. For a long time Liquor de Strega was a favorite. The aperitif line is where I spent a lot of time drinking far more than just a digestive worth. It was nice seeing the Strega but I do not miss its hold on me. It was a nice pop of yellow in the establishment.

A few pizzas were ordered, I didn’t have a chance to snap a picture of a full pie but I did get to enjoy some. The pepperoni with basil was exceptionally delicious & artfully crafted, as were all the other pizzas. It took me a moment to notice the pizza oven as well as the prep area. All pizzas made in house & about as fresh as you can ask for it. The pizza chefs are wizards at their craft; weighing out & shaping the dough balls needed to let rise. Then reshape & flatten out. The roaring pizza oven waiting to cook delicious memories for eager customers.

The crust was crispy yet slight fluffy. The sauce delicately complex as it melds well with the creamy cheese & other ingredients. Little pepperoni dotted the slices with semi charred basil leaves adding an herbaceous pop in between sweet saucy bites. The pepperoni added that nostalgic Italian flavor with a salty semi char from the oven.

I had not intended on having pizza at Italian Disco but some friends had already ordered some so how could I resist? I had noticed in the “Snacks” section of the menu Fried Olives which immediately peaked my interest. I am a huge fan of olive & have tried to fry them in the past. They did not look at magical as these fried olives did. Italian Disco’s fried olives also came with a minced spicy pork stuffing.

Be patient they are hot (in temperature) when they are served. The sizzling brine inside the olive needs time to cool. That being said I definitely ‘hafassahahassaed’ my way through one before letting the rest cool a little. They were awesome, a warm briny salty pop with the fried batter & a hint of the spicy pork salami all created a wonderful flavor. As an olive lover they were divine. The aioli served with them was a smokey something I couldn’t quite place but it was nice. The olives for me were the star of the dining experience.

There were a lot of other delicious options on the menu both snacks & beyond. If you find yourself in a bar crawl or a group event or simply on your own; definitely stop on into Italian Disco & experience it for yourself. Whether it be with a delectable elixir or a tasty meal, you can find both at Italian Disco. The unity in community shows up in many ways, be it food drink or conversation. Either way it’s an adventure.
