🚨PASSED!

The House just passed my bill, the Fix our Forests Act, that I proudly cosponsored with RepScottPeters, to restore forest health, increase resiliency to catastrophic wildfires, and protect communities located dangerously close to wildland urban interfaces. Now, it heads to the Senate, where I look forward to seeing a swift, bipartisan passage.

Washburn fire is burning in the canyon on the otherside of White Chief Mt. It's solid rock between us and the fire except for some stringers of trees coming up the canyon wall. Fairly close to our property as the crow flies. But still protected by a lot of rock.. USFS had asked us to use our road to access our back gate into their land NEVER said a word about using our property as a break. I explained to them, we are a Christmas tree farm and miling, timber, and firewood business and the forest farm is our livelihood. They've cut down a great deal of young silvertip red fir on our property in case the fire comes our way. Our property is thinned and brushed and we've planted 20000 plus trees over the years. Their side is a diseased mess of dead and dying trees stacked up windfall and overgrowth, of coarse they'd use our pristine forest for a break. I don't think they're even been made aware it's private property. It's not the fault of the people doing the work and I greatly appreciate them and all they do. I don't understand their statagy. Mother nature has a big break already and we've cleared most already. They're planning to use our property as a backburn because it's already cleared IF it moves towards where?? Why burn half of our land as a backburn. I don't get it?? We've tried to reach out and no call back yet. I hope to hear from them today so I can tell them my concerns. The good news the fire has not grown much in the last two days. Final thought USFS need to clean up their forest with proper management and use this fire to brush their mess of a forest. None of us will have this problem.
