Learning together can open new possibilities for an entire family. 🌱

In Thailand, ECHO’s South Asia team recently joined children and youth with disabilities and their parents for a practical compost production workshop rooted in that idea.

Families spent time learning and practicing together, exploring how compost can support backyard gardens and make use of locally available resources. The knowledge gained can contribute to growing food at home today, while also providing a foundation for families interested in exploring opportunities for supplementary income in the future.

This is part of what a holistic approach to sustainable agriculture looks like across the ECHO network: making space for people of different ages and abilities to participate, share knowledge, and discover practices that are relevant to their own lives.

As the workshop concluded, participants celebrated their learning with certificates and knowledge they can continue putting into practice at home.

We are grateful for our partners across the region who help make inclusive, practical learning opportunities like this possible within the ECHO network. 🌿

Earlier this month, members of ECHO’s South Asia team and our CEO, Abram Bicksler, visited agroforestry leader Aj. Jinda’s demonstration farm. Aj. Jinda and her team welcomed the group and shared practices shaped by their local context.

Moments like these are at the heart of ECHO’s network: learning from one another, strengthening relationships, and creating space for knowledge to be shared.

The work of feeding livestock begins long before feeding time.

Silage is preserved livestock feed that helps provide dependable nutrition when fresh forage isn't available. Preparing, evaluating, and refining these practices is one of the many ways ECHO explores practical agriculture alongside practitioners around the world.

Behind every batch is careful preparation, thoughtful observation, and a commitment to sharing what we learn so others can adapt ideas to their own local contexts.

What happens when agricultural leaders from around the world come together to share what they know?

ECHO CEO Abram Bicksler, alongside Shaun Snoxxel and Dr. Tim Motis, recently joined the International Horticulture Congress, connecting with practitioners and researchers from across the globe.

Beyond sharing insights from ECHO’s global network, the Congress offered an opportunity to learn and return with new perspectives. From conversations around food security to ideas that sparked creativity, the experience reflected the value of bringing diverse knowledge and experiences into one shared space.

One process. Two useful resources.

At ECHO's Southeast Asia Regional Impact Center, this modified biochar kiln creates biochar while also capturing wood vinegar, making the most of a single process through thoughtful design.

Wood vinegar is a liquid collected when smoke from the biochar-making process cools down. When properly prepared and diluted, it can be used in different ways, including supporting soil health and helping manage some pests.

By collecting both biochar and wood vinegar, practitioners can get more use from the same materials, making the most of their efforts.
