FarmStrong Flowers Agriculture Welcome to our newest endeavor...WE BOUGHT A FARM! Join us on our journey as we use this page to post our trials and tribulations of owning land.

In 2017 our move to the Kansas City area led us to pursue a dream of owning a farm, so we bought almost 12 acres of crops in Bucyrus, Kansas, just 18 miles South of Leawood, Kansas and close to the State Line. From working with an architect, to picking a builder, to getting all utilities to the property, to developing a cut floral farm business and more!

We have hundreds of baptisia foliage stems to harvest, but we are only cutting what is pre-sold for tomorrow to save space in the cooler. Get online to place your orders before 5 pm today to guarantee your bunches for pick up tomorrow or Thursday this week.

We had an “imminent danger” alert on our phones for the first time. This wild wall of clouds passed over with just a sprinkle of rain and very little wind. Hoping the worst is not yet to come.

Behind on posting photos of our varieties that have been blooming since April. As pretty as the bloom is, the jury is still out if we will continue growing this one for cut flower production. Its growing habit is not one of my favorites for good commercial stem cuts. Hoping it improves this month.

Our hundreds of roses are spending another season neglected here on the farm. I knew they’d have to take a backseat to running a more full-time wholesale market for all of our florist in Kansas City. Hoping to get them in check next season.

Last night Layla and I were in the field at dark harvesting and bagging dahlias after her football game. She reminded me to look up.

Today is the day the 2026 dahlia season at FarmStrong Flowers starts. All the early rain and cool temps has given us the most gorgeous plants in our years of growing dahlias. So many more are budded up and will be ready to cut next week. In a few more weeks we will be rocking and rolling with carloads of dahlias headed to for our floral designers.

We’ll have our first dahlia blooming this week putting us weeks ahead of prior years for blooms to start. We’ve had a wet, wonderful spring for dahlias.

Being a mom means so many different things for everyone and I love that it doesn’t have to mean you birthed a human to become a mom. Me becoming a mom didn’t come without struggles and uncertainty and that made me acutely aware of how lucky I was to make it through many failed IVF attempts and a high risk pregnancy. I don’t take it for granted that I was given this gift by chance. I wish more than anything that I could share that outcome with so many of my friends that didn’t get what they’d hoped for in their journey to have a child, but I love seeing them as amazing moms to their stepchildren, adopted children, nieces, nephews, friend’s children, and pets. 💗

The spring weather was not kind to us the last couple months and we lost almost all 8,000 of our tulips, thousands of our daffs, all of our hellebore flowers, many of our peonies and more. I’m finally starting to harvest what wasn’t bitten by the cold temps.
