A Sustainable Southern Rhode Island Farm Winery
Meet Hollow Ridge Vineyards, an intimate Southern Rhode Island farmstead which will be beautifully restored as a new destination. Currently under construction with a goal of planting in Spring 2022, we will provide our guests the opportunity to not only sample wines from our grapes, but other local vineyards and wines sourced from grapes around the East Coast.

2025 is to be our first year of fruit production. We at Hollow Ridge Vineyards are dedicated to being the best farmers we can be. There has been a lot of learning, which we are sure will continue indefinitely!

Our vines have been resilient in the driest year in 2022, as we continue to dry farming. In addition our philosophies are to be dedicated to regenerative farming and improving what was meager soil health. The vines have seen newer organic applications, some effective some not, as we continue to learn our terroir.

We have labored over hand w**ding, careful w**d whacking to follow a no-till philosophy in sustaining and building a healthy rhizosphere. We are anxious and excited about 2025, just as much as sharing our special place here in Rhode Island in the near future.

Six weeks ago the Pinot Noir block was born. Since then the Pinot Noir has settled into their new home and we look forward to how the Dijon clone 115 expresses the site. The clone was selected for its elegance, exotic red fruit and perfumes aromatics.

These guys have had a harrowing beginning. A great story for our tasting room when it opens. Now set with their trellising… the first 13 rows are resilient and ready to thrive.

Innovation in the field of viticulture is challenging on many levels. The creation of a new grape variety has many hurdles in its quest to become commercially viable.

I am grateful for the opportunity today to taste and learn about four new cold-hardy mildew-resistant European Hybrids. They were familiar in their profiles with parentage in the Pinot family, and showed huge benefits when being cultivated in cool humid regions. The Kersus with a Pinot Bianco parent was mid-weight white wine refreshing with a slight almond finish, while the Pinot Kors (yes Pinot Noir as one parents) was poised with ripe strawberries and cherries that had all the underpinnings of its one parent.

Thank you Elisa DeLuca from Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo for your fantastic presentation.

We've planted a cover crop blend of fescue with a dollop of clover! These cover crops do many things including enhancing biological diversity in the root zone, providing habitat for beneficial predators, and improving soil structure & fertility.

Hilling-up for protection of winter injury! This is one of the most effective methods of protection as the soil around the vine acts both as a thermal mass to hold heat, and as an insulator to slow heat loss during the cold months. ❄️

Thank you Mother Nature for the perfect day! The mist in the morning is needed for the development of Noble Rot (which burns off in the afternoon and prevents it from turning into grey rot). This good fungus attacks very ripe, thin-skinned grapes. The result? Unique flavors!
