The cooking contest that is part of the youth Suffolk Cup on Saturday morning of the Suffolk Event will be a great activity! The youth will work in teams to create a dish using American lamb that could be served by a food truck and then present their creation to the judges, Breanna Reed and Derek Miller.

Breanna Reed operates Bee-Ewe-tiful Farms, located in Walkerton, Indiana. She and her husband Justin, raise several breeds, with a primary focus on purebred Suffolk sheep. Bee-Ewe-tiful Farms has become known for its commitment to quality breeding and sustainable grazing practices, including managing flocks on solar sites across Northwest Indiana. Breanna is an accomplished cook and enjoys cooking with homegrown lamb and preserving food from her garden. She traveled to Germany this spring as a member of the 2025 US cohort to the US-German Forum Future Agriculture. She is a graduate of the National Farmers Union Beginning Farmer Institute.

Derek Miller and his wife, Michelle, operate Waymaker’s Meadows in Sinks Grove, West Virginia. They are first-generation farmers and bought their 110-acre farm in 2017, and built it from the ground up, putting in fencing for pastures and building a barn. They started raising sheep in 2020 and now have 50 ewes. They fell in love with Suffolks when they purchased their first registered ram and chose Suffolks for their excellent growth. Derek enjoys cooking with and promoting lamb that they sell through farmers’ markets. He has a degree in business management and works as a Senior IT Field Analyst.

Breanna and Derek were winners of the United Suffolk Sheep Foundation’s Young Producer Travel Grant to attend the Suffolk Event, and we are happy they will share their expertise with our youth.
