The Breeding Bull: Your Herd’s Ultimate Athlete
LeBron James, Tom Brady, Usain Bolt — these names bring with them a certain performance standard. Each season, fans expect these athletes to be in top form, to perform and to achieve results of which no one else is capable.
Underwood Angus Farms has been busy lately. 5 calves have been born in the last 4 days, and one pretty neat story (It's worth the read) has come from one that was born today. We have the cows that are close to calving in a separate lot/pen to get them into the barn if they need assistance or if the weather is nasty. Then the cows that aren't so close are in a long fenced-in cornfield where they are fed hay in a wagon feeder. Early this morning, one of the cows in the calving lot started to go into labor. Cow 814, in the video, was born in 2008 and has had 7 calves in her lifetime. This morning she had a healthy heifer calf. Of the 7 calves she has had, they have all been girls, no bulls. While she was giving birth, one cow from the cornfield made her way up to the barn and stood right next to the barn during the whole process of the new baby being born. The cool thing about this cow coming all the way from the feeder in the field to the barn, (nearly a 1/4 mile), was the fact that this cow was 814's first calf. She came up to the barn to be there when her sister was born. If you don't think cattle can communicate or know who their parents are we beg to differ. We thought this was pretty cool here at Underwood Angus.
Our sale bull's information has been updated on each of their photos in the Bulls for Sale album!
This is our GAR New Design 5050 sired herd bull that is the sire for many of the yearling bulls we have for sale. This bull was purchased at the IBEP Spring 2014 Sale. He preformed very well in the test.
