Last crops of the year are coming in under dramatic fall skies.
As ever, our self-serve farmstore is open on the honor system dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.
Right now, we're fully stocked with

fresh milk,
eggs,
farmstead and queso fresco cheese, pasture-raised chicken,
Cortland apples,
leeks,
onions,
and a dwindling but delicious selection of beef and pork cuts. Watch out for more pork toward the end of the month!

Our favorite recurring question in the farmstore this summer was, "wait, you guys produce all of this?!"
We do! and, we have wild blueberries from Blue Hill Berry Co. in stock for the winter, too.

These last few days, the signs of the seasonal shift have been settling in. The days are getting short, the first leaves are turning color. Everything is growing more slowly.

But what does it mean, these rapid changes?? Winter is coming. The cold. The dark. Loong months of cold and dark. Are you ready... OR (more likely) do you still need chicken?

Is anyone -can anyone be- *truly* ready for the winter without a freezer full of 10, 20, 50, pasture-raised and organically fed chickens to give them (read: you) the fortitude to persevere.

At the farm, we are filling every available space with summer bounty to prepare for the winter ahead. You can too!

Contact us to arrange for your bulk chicken. We have whole birds available, ranging from 4-6lbs. Discounts start at 10+ birds.

The August calving is complete now with 7 calves in the barn and 7 more cows back on the milking line. That means dairy is back!

Alas, with dairy back, we have noticed that jars are not coming back as swiftly as they are going out.

So, a couple reminders:
Return what you take, pay for what you break.
Rinse thoroughly before returning.
Do not dishwash unless you remove the label; the heat dry cycle bakes the label adhesive onto the jar.

Take care of your community, take care of your farmer: return you glass! :-)

And thank you for supporting the farm. It's an honor to feed so many of you.

If you have come by the farmstore in recent weeks and seen empty shelves, we're dropping a line to let you know the milk drought is breaking! We've had 5 calves in the last few weeks and the milk is flowing again.

We still run low on Wednesdays due to a couple back-to-back buying clubs, but any other day is a safe bet for fresh milk, yogurt, and cheeses.

We're also stocked up on beef, pasture-raised chicken, and eggs.
Come on by dawn to dusk 7 days a week to check it out.

Even the farm truck makes time for music and contra between loads of hay!
Being a stage for the Surry Contra Dance was a first for the farm truck. Dresses 👗 up pretty good, all told.

This week's Friday Farm Highlight is Quill's End Farm!

Nestled along Route 15 just before Back Ridge Road in North Penobscot, Quills End Farm is a familiar sight to many traveling through the area. You may recognize their beautiful working horses and dairy cows grazing in the fields surrounding the farm—a reminder of the rich agricultural heritage that makes our community so special.

Quills End Farm offers a variety of locally produced goods, including fresh milk, yogurt, vegetables, beef, and more. Their farm store is open dawn to dusk, seven days a week, making it easy to stop by and support local agriculture.

We're proud to celebrate Quills End Farm as part of our Farmland Forever program and thank them for helping preserve the working lands that make the Blue Hill Peninsula such a special place.

If you have been to the farmstore in the last week and noticed that we are low on milk, fear not! Unfortunately, the gorgeous, sweetheart of a shorthorn bull we found last year wasn't great at his job, so we are milking fewer cows than usual.
However, we have several cows due to calve this month, so we'll have more than enough dairy again soon. We may even have Extreme Dream Cream again, come early August.

In the meantime, we still do have milk and yogurt! And vegetables, and beef just back from the butcher last week. Come grab a steak and some garlic scapes for the grill!
