Early Bird & Second Mouse began with two guys and an idea — about how to create interesting and delicious foods in a unique smoker built with reclaimed materials. native Ian Nichelson and his father, Gary, discovered an old cast-iron boiler inside the remains of the historic McDaid School Building, which was being torn down. With the help of a local welding company, father and son transformed the

antique boiler into an immense wood-fire smoker. They soon added a large barbecue grill, also made from reclaimed metals and given a new purpose. Since then, Ian and Gary have experimented with new ways to combine wood smoke and unexpected ingredients to make mouth-watering foods that local folks can enjoy — including meats, cheeses, chocolate and more.
