I just got a phone call from a friend, a NR resident and farmer who is currently at the Lorain County Fair. He had just had the proposed zoning plans for the city brought to his attention. It’s not so much the conversation he and I had that tweaked my interest, but rather the fact that the city is ending the public feedback on something that will affect all of the farmers in North Ridgeville the day after fair week. In essence that means the closer the deadline comes the more chatter that happens about a topic, and the people who are going to be affected by this particular topic are tied up with commitments that they spend a whole year preparing for and will only have a couple hours to try to present their words and feelings to the city and the direction it is expecting to take.

The city often tells residence that information is on the city calendar and readily available, but does the city look at other calendars when they decide to set their deadlines? If anyone happens to know any reporters, this would probably be an eye-catching story on the news and in the newspapers. Not just the timing, but the whole rezoning issue and the way it is being handled. commitments that they spend a whole year preparing for and will only have a couple hours to try to present their words and feelings to the city and the direction it is expecting to take.

The attached photo is my wife, taking care of one of our special needs ducks, Sally, on our nonprofit therapy farm, Fox’s Dinky Little Farm on Center Ridge Road. If you would like to check out the farm, shoot a message to the farm and one of us will get back to you to set up an appointment - visits are always free. We just ask that you make an appointment so we can be prepared. 🐐🐓🦃 🦆 🐇🪿

The pekin ducks don’t get in the pond by themselves, so I take time each day to put them in myself. Donald high tails it out in about 4.4 seconds, but Sally and Daisy LOVE it (For those of you who don’t know Sally, she is our special needs duck and can’t walk very well. The pond gives her the physical therapy she needs and allows her to stay clean). Today Donald came back down the ramp (well she kinda slid back down the ramp 😂) and actually spent some time preening. I love that we have the pond for them to enjoy!!

The animals are sad that I went back to school, so we decided they needed a farm event to cheer them up!! After some discussion by our wonderful board members, we decided on “Farm Chores and S’mores”! Join us on September 11th to help complete nightly chores/get the animals to bed, then stay to enjoy s’mores over the fire. You can even choose to just come for one or the other if that would cause farm overload!

We are not charging for this event, but we are accepting donations to help with some projects we need to get finished before winter! We will also have some of our custom farm shirts available for purchase if you’re interested!!

We do need everyone to sign up so we can ensure enough parking and s’mores supplies! 3 choices will be available to let us know if you want to come for chores, s’mores, or both! Use this link to reserve a spot!! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0448A5A92FA7F8C61-65439452-farm

Going back to work tomorrow so I spent some cherished time outside this morning. Can’t wait til we build a deck by the pond so I can relax after work watching them!

This guy is Bean. He annoys the heck out of the ladies, but he looked so handsome swimming around this morning.

What do you guys think…should I do this for my “back to school” nails? 🤣🐓

Our chickens haven’t laid well this summer, so every egg is cherished. Well, Junie B (our very curious hen) decided she needed to tip over the egg basket that I had sitting on the table ready to take inside after finishing chores. At least the chickens got a little extra protein and calcium when they gobbled up all the eggs that rolled off the table and smashed to the ground 😭😭 These guys are so lucky they’re cute!!
