This young lady did a very good job of compiling some useful information about these invasive pests. A few of her snippets from articles have been disproved, such as the level of toxicity, length of time in the US, and range.
We at Farm life like to share useful information to our followers, and the disposal methods, precautions, and eradication suggestions are on point.
As we go into planting season , my Southern partners , please be aware that the USA has an invasive species of worm called the Hammerhead Worm, and they need to be killed ASAP.
They are indigenous to Southeast Asia and are currently in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and parts of Tennessee. They are very Dangerous to the existing earthworm population as they cannibalize existing earthworms as they move in
Donβt cut it into 10 pieces because it will grow 10 more worms (they are immortal). YOU MUST dissolve in salt and vinegar in a jar for a few days. You can also freeze the worm if youβre not about to kill it alive before dissolving it.
DO NOT TOUCH THEM WITH YOUR HANDS. They are believed to carry incredibly potent tetrodotoxin , which is also found in pufferfish. Use gloves when handling , and do not make contact with your skin. They are Extremely Dangerous to Pets and Livestock
EDIT : I have commented on some links and articles where you can learn more about Auburn Universityβs study on them and where to both find and how to avoid them. Originally written by Rachel Tortorelli
