From chicks to chicken nuggets!
Here at the farm, we raise our own meat birds. It’s controversial to some but so is what they fill our meat with at the grocery store.
We rest easy, knowing that these birds will have the absolute best life they could ask for they will have fresh grass every day, once their feathers grow in, they will have freshwater and food. They will also have plenty of space to roam and just be.
Typically, a high production farm would give the birds food all day and night to plump them up as quickly as possible. They would also not give them enough space to roam or have fresh grass. Some might not ever see sunlight. The birds in the end would end up being immobile and it’s not a pretty sight to see.
We allow the birds at this age to have full access to food, but that will taper down to 12 hours on and 12 hours off as they get older to ensure they do not overstuff themselves and are able to live a pleasant life and not be immobile. If they over eat their legs and heart can’t keep up with the growth and they will die tragically. The way we do things they’re living a wonderful life while they can and we are feeding our family the best meat we can!
So you may not agree and continue to purchase from the store so you don’t have the back story or see the cute little fluffs but for us it’s about knowing what goes into the bird and how they’re treated that matters.
